Road Flare

Last time I was in the US I purchased a road flare which is a led warning light that can be used to warn users if you break down, I was in Costco this evening and see that they are now selling them in the UK for £18.99 + VAT for three yellow road flares, for more details the packaging mentions http://themaxflare.com/

Would these be a recognised breakdown signal and also would they be legal here?

That was a question I asked :)

Apparently fully legal if used to indicate a hazard/broken down vehicle (same as hazard lights) and must be yellow/amber.

Looking at the website they appear to have green/red/blue but Costco only sell the yellow one.

Good question, Oh Sheriff of That Parish, but I hate to think that ploddo would criticise anybody who used ANY colour of light to highlight a breakdown or hazard on the road.

......and the mother of triplets asked her sons, just after breaking down on the M6, "who's got the 3 wee blue emergency lights......?"

The answer......?

"Me Maw.......Me Maw.......Me Maw......"

Kev you have far too much free time :)

Del After playing with them this morning they can be attached to the car, they seem to have two strong magnets under the rubber so attach strongly without scratching, they can also be put on the floor and survive a drive over (I tested it - sad eh), the flash patterns seem to have some that are better in a vertical position and others that look best when it is placed flat.

Many years ago when I were a lad..........................altogether now.............

I used to PDI all the cars, and we had a batch of new Toyota's come through with a baton shaped object on a clip under the dash, a bit like a stick of dynamite

We were advised to remove them as they were not for the UK market, so had great fun setting them off, they were very impressive I must say...................boys and toys eh?

I think they are used a lot by the USA Police at the scenes of accidents and breakdowns

Kingo

See that's the benefits of having a T180... It came with four of those warning lights one on each corner of the car.. Best bit though is that they are electric !! Press a wee button on the dash and the flash !!! How good is that ????

Just seen that the RAC seem to sell them and state this about them "A 360 degree amber flashing lamp may be legally attached to the vehicle, and used "at the scene of an emergency or where it is necessary or desirable to warn persons of the presence of the vehicle or hazard on the road" under existing provisions of the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations (1989)."

Prices are somewhat higher at £15.00 plus P & P each unit http://www.personalhazardlight.co.uk/category/Yellow
