Toyota Avensis

Hi Guys

I drive a Toyota Avensis 2004 1.8 petrol.

Car has been running great to date I'm, very pleased with it.

One slight minor problem today, the button that opens and closes the electric wing mirrors - when I pressed it this morning it got pushed right back into the dash.

I have to keep lifting the cover off underneath to push it back out but as soon as I press the button again it gets back pushed in.

Any help please?

Shouldn't try lubricating the button, as whatever you use as a lubricant may cause the switch to overheat - this was the issue with the recent master power window switch recall that affected some Toyotas.

New switch needed?

Thanks for replying.

Sorry I don't think my original post was very clear.

The button still works, just when I go to press it the whole section (electric mirror buttons) just get pushed into the dash, so I have to take the cover off underneath and push them back into place but they don't stay in place.

The button is fine, it's just that it doesn't stay in place when I press it, there's nothing hold it in place so when I press it the whole section just gets pushed back. Does that make it any clearer?

Sounds like the whole plate/part that gets pushed in may need replaced - but check that the mounting area/hole is not at fault before buying a replacement.

Any way you can apply some good quality adhesive to the mounting panel and glue in place?

This sounds like a good idea.

I just wasn't sure if there was some kind of clip that holds it in place that had come off?

I folded up a piece of paper a few times and wedged it underneath the panel, seems to have done the trick.

Thanks for the help guys.
