Smartkey Auto Door Lock Not Working

Recommended Posts

Posted

my iQ is 2009 - SmartKey

When the door is locked, I can unlock the door if I touch the door handle.

But,

When I stop the engine, jump out of the car, close the door, and then touch the door handle, the doors won't lock (nothing happened)

I can only press the key to lock the doors

Anyone knows what's the problem ?

Thanks.

Just checking.

To unlock the door you simply place your hand behind the handle as if you were going to pull the handle. There is a sensor behind the handle that sees that.

To lock the door you press the 2 lines embossed into the handle.

That's how mine works anyway, just checking your pressing the right bit. :)

As Craggle says above, you'll see 3 lines embossed into the leading edge of the door handle, touch or stroke top and bottom of handle.

There may well be differences in how the system operates between the Japanese spec and the UK/European spec.

As an example the picture below is the Auris door handle which (in this case) has the unlock sensor where the two lines are showing. For the IQ the positioning of the sensor may be on the top edge of the handle rather than on the face.

Just been out to my car to have a play.

The only way to unlock the doors is to place your hand behind the handle as if you are going to pull the handle to open the door or press the button on the key fob.

The two lines on the front of the handle lock the door. There are two lines on the top and two underneath the handle. I assume the same handle is used on both sides of the car so the lines appear top and bottom.

Pressing or stroking the lines locks the door and it doesn't matter which ones you use, top, bottom or both together, they all lock the doors. You need the key remote in range of course for this to happen which is only a metre or so from the door handles.

Here is a pic with the two lines visible at the front of the handle.

I have to press both upper and lower ones to lock mine in a strange pinchng movement.

That's strange. Maybe I just have the touch..... :)

Just a quick tap on the two lines is all that is needed on mine, to lock it.

The sensor is both sides of the handle. And active. Strangely, i have to touch the sensor longer when i am dehydrated than when not. They work on capacitance like iPhone screens
