Hi All

My Toyota Avensis is struggling to start first thing on a morning, I have had fuel injectors, fuel filter and glow plugs replaced, my car turns over for about 5 seconds then eventually starts. The car then starts first time after that. I go to work I leave the car for about 8 hours and when i come to start the car after finishing work it struggles to start, It has done 105,000 miles with full service history. Took it to Toyota they put it on their diagnostic machine and no error code was found. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated???

I'm going through this patch at this moment in time :-(

I had 2 mobile mechanics out with there diagnostic machines and no codes found! They both said its not electrical related but its parts/mechanical related. I've replaced fuel filter and still having this starting issue. I do have a slight fuel leak from injector no: 2. The engine does not mis fire or cut out once engine is started. ever so smooth once cranked over.

have carried out a screw driver test to test for bad fuel injectors? Grab a large screw driver you have, will make the job a lot easier. Start the engine. And basically you going to use a screw driver to listen to each of the injectors for pulse. What you need to do is touch the metal part of the fuel injector with screw driver and then placing your ear to the handle of the screw driver.

You should be able to hear the fuel injector pulse. The fuel injectors opening and closing. And if you don't hear any pulse or sound different to the other fuel injectors, then you know it's a bad injector. This is the easiest and cheapest way to check for that. So I hop you found this tip helpful!

eventually had to drive it to a garage last Friday and let a mechanic have look at it, and have not heard from the garage bloke yet. I wonder what his findings are? Shall wait and see...

SCV Valve or starter motor (not turning it over quick enough) would be a good place to start

I do have a slight fuel leak from injector no: 2

If you have a slight leak coming out you also have the chance of a slight air leak being drawn in too which needs sorting first

Kingo

Replaced starter motor. Car now starts at the first turn of key and runs well. So, my advise is: if your car has been running fine, then suddenly it refuses to turn on, test the starter motor with a multimeter first, before you go any further!
