Gen 6 Alloy Wheel Problem

Hi guys , I have a '98 gen 6 gt and on two of my alloys , ( which are the 15 inch stock alloys supplied new with the car ) the laquer / plastic coating has started to peel off . The alloy underneath this is discoloured , the only reason I can think is that I have been using an alloy cleaner and it must have reacted . I believe the alloys have never been the best anyway . My questions are , if I leave it will the alloy get worse and is it expensve to put right ?

thanks guys .

The wheels are powder coated in silver paint then a second coat of lacquer is added, the lacquer has to be put on to stop the silver paint from oxidising (the aluminium flakes in the silver react with oxygen and will go black without a clear lacquer to pretect it)

cost is approx £30 per wheel - shotblasting, powder coating & lacquering
