Auris 1.6 2009 Front Shock Absorbers

Can anyone confirm if oem front shock absorbers are gas or oil filled.

Think they're probably oil filled. Recent post on the Rav4 forum has a picture of a front shock absorber leaking (post 11 of http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/150595-front-shocks/) on a 2007 Rav4.

A lot of shocks have both oil and gas. The oil does the damping and the gas pressure stops the oil from foaming. You can normally tell if they have gas in them if it tries to extend to maximum length on its own

Thanks for the advice. On close examination oil is leaking so looks like Gloucestershire potholes have claimed another victim.
