Which Tyres?

My Car is in with Toyota getting the engine rebuilt at the moment, and I thought I would treat it to some new tyres when I get it back.

As I don't have the car with me, I can't confirm what Tyre Size I need (It's a 2007 XT-R, 17" Wheels). It's currently got Bridgestone Duellers on at the moment, but the Front Nearside, and Rear Offside Tyres need replacing.

I was thinking of replacing 2 of the tyres, and moving the good rear one the the front so I end up with Reasonable tyres on the Front, and new tyres on the back. (as I did with all my 2WD Cars.) Is this still the right thing to do with the Rav4?

Does anyone have any suggestions decent tyres for this car? I've always liked Bridgestones, and had them on my previous car (Fiesta). I did have Pirelli's on the fiesta for a while and really didn't like them.

Thanks for any advice!

Jon.

Jon.......sorry to not answer your question, but jump to your other thread re the engine. Why have you reverted to saying "the engine is being rebuilt.....?"

Seriously mate, as I said before, you have every right to know what is happening to your property. If they are rebuilding your engine as opposed to REPLACING it, something is totally amiss here. Sorry, but my suggestion of getting face to face with your service manager is now becoming crucial. I will take any form of rebuff or correction from such as Kingo, but I really am detecting a rodent. Your dealer is either poor at communication, or you feel undermined by his supposed superior knowledge. Just ask.......are you getting a replacement or rebuild......? If you have misunderstood him, my apologies.

Get Yokohama tyres.....quieter than Bridgestone who are not my favourite people anywayhowz. Please also watch you are not running a 4WD vehicle with vastly different tyre treads therefore different grip potential.

Factory fit are Yokohamas Geolander G91 225/65/R17 on the XT-R iirc but may be worth double checking for yours, I find them acceptable in all weathers and relatively low road noise.

I believe the recommendation is to put the new ones on the back as you suggest.

I've always understood that new tyres should go on the rear rather than the front (to prevent possible oversteer in extreme situations since average drivers are more likely to lose control if the back breaks away rather than the front).

We always had Duelers on our previous 4.2 (for 11 years) & they were fine - I never felt an overwhelming desire to change them. i also had Cooper CS4's on my previous 4.2 3-dr and they were very good.

I've always heard good things about Continental Cross Contacs & Vredistein's M&S tyres but I've heard seen some pretty bad reviews on Pirelli SUV M&S type tyres - noise, poor wear, etc.

As above, Yokohama Geolanders as an all season tyre, they're very good.
