Sat Nav Cd

Just bought a W-Reg Toyota Avensis 1.8.

I'm very keen to get the Satelitte Navigation system working, but the person from who I bought the car says he does not have the CD that has to go in the boot.

I've read through some of the posts and it would seem the software is extremely expensive to buy.

Are there any other ways of acquiring this software?

Does anyone know of any sources?

Is it in DVD or CD format?

Any info greatly appreciated. (ps. I have a CD-Rewriter)

ps. Also, if anyone can provide any information on how effectively the SatNav works and how exactly it does work I would appreciate it also. It's the first car I've had with such features and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited about trying it out :D

Get yourself eMule or eDonkey and do a search for TNS200. It's a CD, not DVD. The system works very well. A female voice warns you well in advance of any turns etc and got me from Grimsby to Skegness with no hassle at all when I managed to make a wrong turn and get lost. :)

Well I've installed eMule, connected to a server, and managed to find a file.

It's called 'Toyota Avensis TNS200 Sat Nav 2003 CloneCD.rar'

Will this CD contain all UK data? I don't want to download this software to find its loaded with maps or data for another country.

Also, how long does it take for a file to pick up some sources and start downloading with eMule? I've left it now for about an hour and it's still not transferred any data. I'm not really used to eMule as I've only once ever used it before, usually now I use BitTorrent for downloading files - and unfortunately there isn't a torrent for TNS200.

Edit: It's trying to download from 7 Sources and still there has been no progress made. It still reads '0 Bytes'.

Well It's picked up some speed now, though I called it 'speed', it's only going at 4.5kb sec so far. I have 0.5mbit broadband so I should hope it picks up.

If I do continue to have issues acquiring this software I'll give you a PM :hokus-pokus:

Fine - I'm just talking about covering costs basically.

Yes, that's the correct one. It can take quite a while before it gets going but you should manage to get the complete file in 3-4 days. A bit of a pain I know but undoubtedly cheaper than going to your local Toyota dealer. :)

I use my Sat Nav quite a lot and find it pretty good especially the ETA. In my job I drive many cars with Sat Nav and they are pretty much the same, they tend to take you the long way around but if you haven't a clue where yuor going it will get you there. I find I don't take much notice until I'm close to the end of my journey.

Have you got traffic information? mine has re-routed me around a traffic problem twice and saved me hours of being stuck in traffic.

I don't think it has traffic avoidance. Is that an extra box next too the main CD Unit in the boot? If so - no.

By the way, it turned out I didn't need to download the CD at all. The Toyota Dealer said he didn't have one, but when I opened up the boot myself and had a look, there was one in there

The Navigation itself is very helpful, and works very well.
