Lindop Chip

Hi all,

Have had the chip on my car now since November and its been running great and mpg increased, however, the car's engine lights all came on today and car cut out! I called the AA out and he had 2 codes PO191 and PO192, fuel pressure sensor. He spotted the chip and said he would try and remove then give it a go, he did and everything went off. He reckons its something to do with the chip or the fuel pressure sensor is on its way out.

Has anyone else had same problem?

Cheers,

Gav

The hint was in the "never happened again" bit, Gav min.......was in my previous SR180, happened once, got those fault codes, cleared, gone........

Had this just the once when I fitted my one 2 years ago..

Just disconnected the Battery for a few minutes and when reconnected all was well and has been ever since..

Fitted mine last weekend, had just less than half a tank of fuel left when I installed it. No fuel light on yet and already got more miles on the tripometer than usual. I would also say I have been driving faster than normal, accelerating quicker just to see how it performs. My obc is showing now between 43 - 47mpg on my journey to work. Looking forward to seeing brim to brim results on a full tank of fuel driven more conservatively ( if I can....it's very tempting to use the power!)

Oh and the hesitation has gone when I try to pull away quickly at a junction, very useful as where I work I pull out on a blind corner, hesitation is not good due to the speed some people take the corner.

I just need to remember how to reconnect it now!

I normally get 25 miles more out of a full tank of derv with the chip, although I'm now doing more miles with work so tempted to part ex the a

Rav for a Avensis or even a prius!?

Had Kevs old chip in mine for about 6weeks now and my MPG/torque has improved dramatically.

Now getting avg 43 mpg from the previous 29mpg.

I'd go as far as to say its a 'must have'if you own a T180.

Its like a different car.

Gav, did Mr AA man say why he thought the chip could be a factor?

Seems a bit unlikely after 8 months.

He 'suspected' that the chip was faulty as it worked fine when he disconnected..

I will defo fit it again tomorrow

.......or check price with Kingo (previously very reasonable......) to check yer Chip Kit has no gremlins, and maybe get it flashed with more recent updated software if relevant and available, then refit.......? Proof of the pudding being mine still going strong in the car of a very old lawnmower mechanic.......

Good idea, although don't they come with a 12 month warranty?

.......in which case, yours is brand spankful new, Gav min........no need to seek update, my suggestion only relevant had it been an older version.

Does everyone leave the setting as 6? Has anyone played around with settings and found a better value either for performance or mpg?

........for which there was a moderate charge, but I did not want it arriving at its new owner with any glitches, as it had served me well.

Now then!

It only takes a millisecond for the ECU to detect a hike / drop in fuel pressure and this can bring on the EML light, it does not always mean the kit is faulty, just that it detected an unknown blip in the fuel pressure. It is rare, but can happen, especially if say coasting, accelerating hard, backing off and accelerating hard again, or pulling away quickly from a roundabout or junction.

The new kits are adjustable and the default (optimum) seting is number 6. We don't reccomend setting it higher than number 6 as this can cause too much fuel pressure and give the same situation as above, not so much in the warm summer weather, but the cold dense air in the winter may cause that scenario. Having it on a high number also makes the drive too harsh, the power is on / off and very uncomfortable to drive

Disconnect the Battery for ten minutes and re-fit the cables. You could turn it down a notch if desired, or just send me the box back (no wiring-just the box) and I will check it out for you

Kingo

Thanks will leave as 6, good to know these things, I would have tinkered otherwise.

Cheers Kingo that makes a lot of sense as the day before I got cut up by an Audi and I was so annoyed that I opened up the rav and had a bit of fun!
