How Many Years Before The Battery Will Be Dead?

Recommended Posts

I own a 4 year old IQ. The cars I used to have I had to change the Battery every 5 years.

What is the expected life duration of our IQ?

All depends on length of journeys (i.e. are they long enough to have the Battery recover its charge after starting the engine) and whether you have iQ1 or iQ2/3 (more gizmos on iQ2/3).

Ours had to be replaced after 3 years due to inability to hold charge (it was done under warranty; might have been a defective Battery, but might also have been due to our iQ doing lots of short journeys (i.e. less than 2 miles) and hardly any long ones).

I don't know specificaly about the IQ, all my cars over 30+ years batteries have typicaly lasted between 3-6 years, the odd one was slightly longer.

Also depends upon the Quality of the Battery as well as the charge & discaharge rates.

In theory modern batteries should be designed to at least this long however, many things today are designed not to last in my experience.

Takes 40mins driving to recover the power lost on starting the car

I put the car on the tikkle-charger (normally for my motorcycle) for some time, every now and then, specially when the car has been standing longer still (driving with the Smart).

The same fot the motorcycle..it has a very small batery and for long it did not last alanger than 1 or 2 winters. But now with this charger it's fine.

Only problem is that after a while, when the Battery is getting charged, the daytime runninglights also go on and of, when the charging goes on and off..

Strange sight in the night... :-D

So... I think that it's best to keep the Battery charged.... specially if the car stands still for a longer time....

But I've been doing a 20 minute drive ( 7 miles) almost every day for the last year. So according to this theory at some point the Battery would be flat !! :-)
