just got an avensis tourer 1.8vvt petrol with 10,000 on the clock.

nice smooth engine but I notice that it doesn't rev as freely as some cars I've driven....will it take another 10k miles to loosen off properly and become more free revving ? it just still feels too tight is you know what I mean

Try disconnecting the Battery for 5 minutes as the previous driver may have been a bit tame and the ECU learns driving habits and adjusts its responses accordingly.

Disconnect the Battery and leave for 5 minutes then after reconnecting the Battery turn the ignition on and wait 5 minutes before starting the engine, this will delete all learnt values and allow the car to recalibrate back to fresh start point.

Just treat it like a good lady, nice and gentle and then progressively apply more force.
