Some times mine seems as if isn't doing anything, but after pulling the lever if the bonnet doesn't pop up just give the bonnet a little nudge, then it does.

I'm with Soeley. Mine doesn't release until the lever thing under the dash is nearly at the end of it travel.

If you can see the wire is connected to the lever thing under the dash and the lever returns when released then I would think that means the cable is also connected at the other end and just needs to be pulled a bit further.

If the lever under the dash is just hanging loose then that means the cable has become disconnected, which is not good if it is off at the bonnet end!

If you pull the lever thing down as far as it will go you may be able to get a pair of pliers onto the exposed cable and give it a pull to try to give it a bit of extra movement to release the catch.

Lets hope it is as simple as that. (Depending on the age of the car, or not to be honest, it is really a Toyota problem unless someone has been messing about with the bonnet/catches/etc)

Whilst pulling the cable lever inside the car, get somebody to firmly bump the bonnet with the palm of their hand a few times, it should pop up

Kingo

I have taken the lever actuator apart quite a few times and what does and happen is the outer sheath easily comes out of the clamp so pulling the leaver does nothing. Method to get to it:-

Lift up the driver scuff panel

remove the footwell pane on the right hand side by pulling it out

Either of the bottom panel below the air bag panel, there are 2 x10mm bolts to be removed

The panel pulls away and you can easily get to the lever to examine it and pull the cable with pliers to release the bonnet and examine the problem.
