Advice, Please On Xcarlink Usb/ Sd Card Problem

Hi everyone,

I’d be grateful for some advice, please.

Just purchased and fitted a xcarlink USB/ SD card adaptor for my Avensis TX3, mainly on the strength of the good feedback I’ve read on here from other forum users. Problem is, the unit doesn’t seem to like the two Kingston Datatraveler G3 USB sticks (an 8gb and a 16gb) that I’ve loaded the recommended folder structure on to – just get alternating flashing text of ‘CD Open’ and 'CD Load’. However, it does seem to work with my 512mg Busby U3 Smartstick!

Spoke to helpful member of tech support team at Xcarlink who thinks the fact the unit works with the Busby suggests the Kingston sticks may be the problem. Can anyone recommend a brand of USB stick, including the model, that they have found to work with the Xcarlink?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Michael

Sorry, should read '512mb' for the capacity of the Busby and not '512mg'!! Also, should have added that the 512mb capacity is a little too small for my requirements!

Hi Kingo,

Yes, I formatted both the Kingstons prior to adding the recommended folder structure. They are formatted as FAT32.

Thanks. Also, I'm sure I purchased them both direct from Amazon themselves.

It is the size not the brand of usb stick that may be your problem!

If the Xcarlink uses a similar system to Connects2, both models look similar, there may be a 4 gigabyte limit! I installed an older connects2 to my Sony via the cd changer socket and it did not seem to play all the music/folders on a 8 gigabyte memory stick.

I now use 4gb usb sticks as the maximum capacity. These work fine. I tried one of my 4gb sticks in a Xcarlink which I installed in my brothers Renault (Grand Scenic with Nissan diesel engine). It worked fine on that too.

The fact is that the small 512 megabyte usb sticks work, whilst the much larger versions didn't. This seem to go with my theory and experience.

You need to try 2 or 4 gb memory sticks.

Hi Konrad,

Thanks for relating your experiences.

Will try what you have suggested.
