Haynes do one for the 4.2. I don't know how good it is but Halfords sell them.

The alternative is to download what you are looking for from Toyota Europe's own site. I think this is it http://www.toyota-tech.eu/ .

They charge a sub but you can then download as much info as you need and save/print it.

There's also a lot of good mainteance & repair info pinned above which might be worth a look before you go further.

If there is a better manual than the one Haynes offers (I don't think it covers the 2.0l petrol engine model) I'd be very interested. Thanks pmb.

Thank you firemac - I tried the info you gave but it came up as " The resource cannot be found" - managed to get onto the Toyota website, too technical for me!!!!!!!!

The Haynes manual does cover the petrol model and there is a section on the automatic. Earlier there was an american edition (under a different reference number) of this but a lot of the UK version has pics for a LHD vehicle.

Toyota parts/dealer can provide you with the full official Toyota repair manuals.

For my 4.2, there is one for the Chassis/Body, and two (updates) for the Engine. These have part numbers RM..... (repair manual). There is a separate publication for the Electrical Wiring Diagrams (part number EWD....).

Make sure you get exactly the right manuals for your vehicle (vehicle type ACA, CLA, etc., and engine type....). All the official manuals are very comprehensive, and detail testing and rebuilding with clear diagrams. The publications are NOT cheap, but don't let the dealer charge you VAT in the UK - books are zero-rated!

Hi Chris,

I did look at the Toyota manuals, I thought it was a bit too much to pay as I would be trying out numerous ideas/thoughts as to what would be amiss with the gearbox - who knows it might not be the gearbox, its a big 'suck-it-and-see' job. Many thanks ato all for your tips.
