Auris 1.33 Transmission Whine

I bought my September 2011 1.33 Auris with just under 20,000 miles on the clock from the local main dealer at the end of April and have complained repeatedly of a fairly loud whine from the transmission mainly in 4th 5th and 6th gears between 35 and 50 mph. I have read the post by Yanneke who appears to have the same noise, but the dealer tells me that this known problem only applies to the 1.33, 6 speed models. The car has been back twice, the first time the invoice stated. "Investigated noise from gearbox area and found that differential was making a loud noise. Followed Toyota bulletin and checked all okay." The second time I don't know what they did but the noise remains unchanged. They now tell me that all the 1.33 6 speed Auris of this period make this noise to a greater or lesser degree and is normal. I've been driving for over fifty years and this is the only low mileage car I have ever driven with a whine, from what I believe to be the differential which is considered normal.

I don't know whether I should have raised this subject as a new topic bearing in mind Yanneke s posts but the dealer tells me the noise I have is specific to the 1.33, if not I do apologize.

I had a 2009 Auris 1.33 for three years from new and the transmission in that didn't whine. My October 2012 doesn't either, but presumably that has the different differential ring gear and select force characteristic (changed April 2012).

Devon Aygo's information that he gave in reply to Yanneke doesn't support what your dealer has told you in that only the 1.33 is affected. Yanneke's Auris is a 1.6

I would be inclined to go back to your dealer and show them a print of Yanneke's topic including the replies.

The bulletin most certainly does affect your Auris, what parts/work have they done on your gearbox?

Thank you for your reply and interest I will send the dealer a printed copy of the bulletin, assuming I do not hear from you that there are any legal reasons why I should not do so.I do not know what parts were fitted but they told me something was replaced.

Thank you for your reply, I am thinking along the same lines and will do as you suggest. Would you believe that the dealer is waiting for a 2011 1.33 Auris to come in to take me for a ride to prove that it is normal for all 1.33 6 speeds to have a whine. The logic is lost on me.

I have a 6 speed 1.33 late 2010 and in does not whine in any gear. No it is not normal. Waiting for a 2011 to come in? Load of B.......s
