93 Camry Timing

Hi,

I wonder why there isn't a Camry forum for itself here?

Anyway :-) My question is, after changing the timing belt for my wife's 93 camry, I went to inspect and set the timing.

The haynes manual (they're great manuals by the way), states to put the ecu in diagnostic mode and have the car warm up. After it warms up, the engine should be at about 700 RPM.

All is okay then with a timing gun and a hand on the distributor, I've set the timing to spec (10 degrees, exactly).

Next the manual says to put the ecu back to normal operating mode by removing the jumper wire connector. By doing this the engine should advanced to about 15 degrees.....

I get the opposite at 5 degrees, but the engine idles and runs smoothly.....is this normal?

Thanks in advanced,

Dan
