Hand Made Tracking Device And Car Battery Longevity

hey guys

i don't know much about electricity and power consumption do i'm here to ask for your help

recently i made myself a tracking device for my avensis. i've hidden an iPhone with a battery case.

here are some specs:

  • Capacity:3000mAh
  • Input Voltage:DC5V/0.8A max
  • Output1(30pin) Voltage:DC5V/0.5A max
  • Output2(USB) Voltage:DC5V/0.5A max
  • Charging time:8 hours
  • Self power consumption time: Up to 3000hours

i've connected this to my 12V but only when the engine is running but no i want to connect it directly to the Battery.

my problem is: will my car Battery start my engine after 2-3 weeks of charging my iPhone? the hidden iPhone won't be used heavily so it won't drain a lot of power. maybe 1 full charge a week. but i guess that the Battery cover(if fully charged) will be able to hold 2-3 full iphone charges so actualy it will be 1-2 case cover charges for every 2-3 weeks....

please advice

thanks

I don't know but have you got a spare Battery you could fully charge and sit in the house somewhere. Then connect your phone to the Battery similarly as if it was fitted on the car and then see how whether it drains the Battery over time.

I'm sure there's many of you, just like myself, who've had plenty of experience over the years with cars that have had starting and/or battery problems and know that often you can run a battery down trying to turn over and over a car that won't start yet you can leave the car overnight and the battery has enough power to turn it over again.

So I would imagine that the battery should cope well enough with the phone even if it's left unused for several weeks but if you want to be sure then try it off the car with a spare battery and you'll soon find out.lol

Just athought - have you considered the solar powered trickle chargers?

if the car was stolen (I'm presuming that this is what the op wants this for) & hidden in a building/covered car park/container etc. then a solar charger isn't going to do much good.
