How Often Should Pollen Filter Be Changed?

I would get a nasty smell in the car every now and again so I decided to change the pollen filter. I couldn't believe how dirty the one I removed was. How often should these usually be replaced? I have posted photos of the old and new filter.

Inspect at the Intermediate service (12 months/10,000 miles). Replace at the Full service (24 months/20,000 miles). Supposed to be cleanable using compressed air blowing through the filter from the downward side - not sure I'd want to do that.

There was stones and peanuts in mine.

Wow that really is bad, how on earth did peanuts end up there? Lol

Change mine every year using UFI filter...
