Should We Consider A 2010 Verso T Spirit 2.0 D4D?

Hi ALL :flowers:

We currently own a 2006 petrol 1.6 Toyota Corolla SR...served us amazingly for the last 3 years...with literally no repair bills other than new discs and pads...however with the arrival of our new baby and my other 2 boys having grown...we think its time to step up to a 7 seat vehicle!

We're currently looking at a Toyota Verso on a 2010 T Spirit 2.0 D4D...67k...asking price £11k...has everything we're looking for...however....WE have never owned a diesel...nor a 7 seat vehicle...although we have always mostly driven Toyota for most parts of our lives...we're a little worried about what to expect from a diesel.

What should we expect in terms of reliability, are there any common problems? Anything to look out for on a test drive? What is the fuel consumption like on mainly local/town style journeys? Anything out the ordinary required for servicing?

We really look forward to your opinions and thank you.

Hey Sam, surprised nobody's replied before now but here goes.

First of all I wouldn't be too happy buying one with that mileage, unless it has a full Toyota service history & is in very good nick.

Secondly, if you're going to be using it mainly for short distance stop/start style journeys then the DPF will clog up very quickly. This kind of engine really needs a good run at motorway speeds or a 'brisk' drive at least once a week to fully warm up & keep the system running clean. If you don't then it will regenerate & kick soot out the back end regularly, a typical sign of impending problems.

Last but not least, the Verso actually has a very good record for reliability - provided you look after it :)

Lovely vehicles without problems (bar 2.2d) but that particular one is too `leggy` for my liking Sammy, theres plenty more fish in the sea.

Oh and get a late-ish 2010 to have the 5yr warranty ;)

Uncle Buck and Derdave...you guys are gems...thank you for your advice...which will certainly have an effect on our final decision...yes there are plenty more fish out there...the thing is how many of them have the leather we like...and the sat nav with reverse cameras...oh and that panoramic roof...options we really want...and I agree a petrol would suit us better...have read a lot about dreaded egr cleaning etc!

My other half is also considering the Vauxhall Zafira...I would be very unhappy to move away from Toyota...even if the Zafira has leather, satnav, a full body kit, etc...guess we'll have to decide soon.
