Hit And Run

My wife took our car to Shrewsbury today, Frankwell car park across the river from the shops. When she got back to the car some kind soul had put an envelope on the windscreen. Unfortunately the details on the envelope did not make good reading. My wife had not noticed the damage to the front right wing, and possibly the door too, hard to tell when the wing is bent out of shape.

It was a white van (no surprise there then), in particular one with the name D. M. Electrics on its side and is a Mercedes 109CDi Compact Vito panel van with a 6 gear manual gearbox, and a 2148cc engine. The registration is SJ56UAY, and it has been reported to the police, so we have an incident number.

I don't expect the police to do anything about it, and as a consequence I shall not put my opnion of how useful they are on here as I don't want this post booted off. There is CCTV in the car park, and the police know that, but what they will do with it, I know not.

Why are people so F-ing clumsy and retarded? I do wonder at humanity some times. Still, at least I know for sure that this driver is the scum of the earth.

Pics added, first 4 taken on site with phone. The next pics are from home on my Fuji camera.

If they still own the van, then the Company in Glasgow & the Company Director is easy enough to contact.

& it has Insurance on it according to the MID Data Base.

PM sent.

Thanks George, I did look at the details on Google provided sites, but so many with D M Electrics as their company name. Knowing they are insured at least means they will have to pay up once contacted by our insurers.

Originally a Glasgow Scotland registered van,

The possible firm with the same name registered at Bearsden Glasgow.

If their van is in Shrewsbury then it has some of your paint on it unless someone is T Cutting it off now.

The Insurance company can deal with it,

but the Boss might want it sorted sooner rather than later if he is not the driver.

Gutted for you.

Some get has hit my wife's Yaris on the rear quarter, admittedly not as much damage as yours, just left a black scuff and took the paint off the edge of the bumper, but annoying all the same.

More so because I don't know who done it, or if it was in my works car park or my wife's because I only noticed it when the car was on the drive.

Cheers for that. Sorry to hear about your damage too. People are shuch shi*s these days, not accepting any responsibilty for anything. Of course, it's always worse when you don't know who's done it. Been trying to contact the kindly person who left the note. They are not answering their phone at the moment but I do want to thank them and see if they can describe the driver at all, or anything extra about the van.

Thanks again George, got the PM, sent one back to you.

More info from the lady who saw the man hit our car, as she just rang us back. Apparently he was a stocky black guy and they saw him hit our car and he got out to look at the damage. At first she thought it was her sisters car as it looks the same as ours. He said to her and her husband that he was going to leave his contact details for us. They went off to a wedding and he scarpered. So when the couple got back from the wedding they left a note with the details I mentioned above. Sooooo.... Just called the scurrolous Mr. Monaghan and no answer again, thats like, twenty minutes since I last called. BUT... I'm getting it in the ear hole from my wife that I should leave this to the Po-lice... like they're going to do anything to help a motorist.

I know Paul said he didn't 'probe' with that finger, but if he or his mates ever want to, I know someone who needs that finger up their arriss!

Sorry to here about it Bob, hopefully you'll get some recompense. And it's good to know a witness could be bothered to leave a note. Hope you get it sorted hassle free.

Yeah, I guess I'm lucky with that at least. Having a witness who is helpful and described the guy to us as well, and she said that she is willing to talk to the fuzz or insurance people about it if required. Nice to know there are some decent people out there who do the right thing. Lets hope the hassle free part is good too. Of course, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be, but dealing with Insurance companies who love to weazle out of their side of the deal... we'll see, and I'll keep this thread updated with any progress. At least he shouldn't get away with this one.

I had a similar issue in a supermarket car park a few months ago when I returned to my car i found a note on car from two witness that had seen someone hit my car, (creating a slight scratch and removing some paint from the rear plastic bumper). I may not have noticed it until later but for the note on the windscreen.

I then had two witnesses and their telephone numbers and the reg No of the car that hit mine and drove off !

By shear coincedence a police car then drove past me and I stopped it and was asked if I wanted to report a hit and run, I said yes, now the police are taking the offender to court (due in court around Nov 2013) for leaving the scene of accident without reporting it and carless driving.

So the police have since visited me at home to take a full statement from me and are taken full and appropriate action and I am now awaiting the conclusion / outcome of the matter, that may result in some form of finiancial compensation for myself.

I cannot fault the police actions and behaviour in my case.

Positive Regards, Bob.

That's a bummer. I suspect many white van drivers don't care about stopping and giving details because it's not their insurance or problem. There must be some CCTV on offer but whether the plods can be b0llocksed to review it is anyone's guess. My wife's "peanut" was scraped by a bus. There was no question of liability and the repair was paid by the bus company and a darned fine job the panel shop did fixing it up. I hope yours is dealt with ok.

Yes, it is a bummer. My experience with white van drivers is most likely the same as everyone else- they are just from another planet when they climb into that van. Yep, CCTV footage available to Plod, but I am not holding my breath that they will do anything. I have no faith in the law any more and seeing the way things are going, it will only get worse.

Glad to hear your wifes 'peanut' (wtf?) was sorted. I'm just going to post another update on our iQ.

An update on our damaged iQ. The car went in to a place called 'Fix-Auto' of Llanymynech, at the Welshpool end of Pant on the way to Oswestry. I took it on Wednesday, having submitted the photos seen on here of the damage as soon as I knew where the car was going for repair. As a consequence of them seeing the pics I took, when I dropped the car off the front right Wing was, 'winging' its way to Fix-Auto for that afternoon. Sorry... So, they got started on it right away.

Thursday late afternoon I got a call to say they had fixed the damage to the bumper part of the wheelarch. I was also told that they were authorised to spray the whole front bumper, but it would look bad because of the extensive stone chip damage to it. However, for £45 they would do a proper job on the whole bumper, so I authorised them to go ahead with that. I'm sure Mr. T. would charge more...

Thursday I was told I could pick the car up on Friday about 15:00 when it would be ready. They also checked the tracking in case it had been knocked out of line when the clumsy git hit the car.

When I collected the car on Friday it was gleaming, like a new Toy-ota. Inside and out cleaned and sparkly. I was very impressed with their service and would recommend anyone in range to go there if they need to. Because of damage obviously. They do a lot of other services too, They are on www.fixautooswestry.co.uk

Some pics follow, of the courtesy car and work done. From the pic of the iQ showing the wheelarch you can tell -comparing to those pics above- how good a job they did, not so clear on the front of the car due to rain, and it's still persisting down now. I can assure you however it's a 100% improvement. I am now a happy bunny again.

Oh Bob

Sorry to hear about tnat. Not sure how i missed your post til now

David

No probs Dave. I also meant to say in my last post above that they valeted the car too, not to an amazing standard of course, but good enough to be professional and enhance the handover experience. Our iQ is in for a 40,000 / 4 year service today, begins tomorrow actually as we just picked up the courtesy car today.

It's a 13 reg Aygo, in red. I have to say, I shouldn't compare it to the iQ.... but you know how it is when you get out of one car and into another. Some people like the Aygo, but I'm thinking it's almost on the lines of a Marmite car. I hate Marmite, but I don't hate the Aygo. I do however know I would never recommend one to anyone. It's tinny, cramped, and I can't... no, I can be nice about the kit inside, not much of it in this model, but at least it looks good.

One thing in particular I don't like about the Aygo is the reflections from the dash onto the screen. The new dash plastic looks good, but unfortunately the reflections it causes, along with the central 'vents' on top of the dash meant when driving it back in the sunshine, I could not see the left side of the road in some areas due to shadow from buildings, hedges and trees. Even driving it when the clouds covered up the sun it was disconcerting to see so much reflection on the screen. Also, there was a sound I likened to something that I can't recall now, but it was more accurate than just road noise. It is quite noisy inside. I know that some people will be very happy with their Aygo's, but it's not a car I would buy. I'll stick with the iQ. Even my wife, who hardly ever has an opinion about cars said that she would not like one as it was too tinny, noisy, cramped and agreed about the bad reflections.

In the dealers, now Greenhous and not William A. Lewis, I saw my favourite Toyota, a GT-86 in black.... mmmmmhhhhmmmm, nice. There was also a new iQ2 in that burnt orange colour, nice too. Very nice interior compared to the one we have. I have heard and read what some motoring journalists have said about the interior of the GT-86, but I think it suits it, shame it doesn't have a HUD for the screen though. I think if I had the money I would make sure the next car I get has a HUD.

Cheers for that. Just got back from picking the car up after its 40,000 mile service... expensive. I can actually feel the difference however, as it should have been serviced back in July. I forgot, and it was whilst the dealership was changing over from William A. Lewis to Greenhous, and they missed it too. Now I'm happy.

Was the service plan worth it? Is it cheaper than just paying for the usual servicing scheme? There's bound to be something not covered... but for your sake I hope not; just in case there's something wrong with it. The Burnt Orange colour is one of the best in the range. I actually saw my first Blue iQ last week, it had advertising on it, in green but I didn't catch what the advertising was for as I was going round a corner at the time, concentration was elsewhere.

As for the Bunt Orange iQ I like the image of black mirrors, black wheels and a black bonnet, with that limo-black glass like you have on your car, and one of those aerials -I think you fitted one to your car too- that Taz fitted, like those seen on a lot of cars, BMW's etc. Think they're called shark fin aerials. Anyways, one day I may have the moolah to get an iQ like that, some nice wheels especially, and of course a HUD, DRL's... nice thought.
