I would honestly say you have no chance of a dealer covering a clutch, it is a wear and tear item! I would only start worrying if starts slipping!

Hi Thank you for your advice, it's annoying car cost me £3,000 and now I may have to pay for a replacement clutch, it may not be slipping but it's a uncomfortable clutch to press in, I'm just annoyed that cause it's not slipping, the dealers attitude is to refuse not to do anything else, I will ring Toyota tomorrow Cardiff to get a check on milage plus ask their advice, thank you though very much for your help & advice ;-( I will have to keep a eye on the oil now as well & I thought Toyota Avensis was bomb proof car, that's why I bough it to be honest.

Thank you ;-)

Hi Thank you very much for link to check the milage & history etc, I can't check it as yet as I have to wait for the Log Book to be sent back to me from DVLA ;-) to input information.

Thank you gents ;-)

I understand the car cost £3,000 and honestly I'm not trying to rain on your parade - but lots of manufacturer warranties from new don't cover clutches - I really don't think it's going to fail anytime soon if it's not slipping. Re the mileage - more than likely it's genuine - it's possible the car could have done 35,000 miles of pure town driving which would wear the clutch quicker than longer runs. Good luck and please check your oil on your vvti every week - they can guzzle!

Asides from a thirst for oil, they are probably the most reliable family car of similar age and class.

For your information and my experience, my mk1 clutch pedal squeaks a little bit! Waqar who has a later model also has a squeaking clutch pedal. Greasing is the remedy and there is nothing wrong with the hydraulic system.

On the mk1 at least the clutch pedal operation is adjustable for height of pedal and play. This can change the biting point.

Not sure if the mk2 Avensis has a similar setup. If so then adjustment is possible too.

I would get a mechanic who knows and dealt with Toyota Avensis to look at the car but not fix anything. Get an opinion. You may have done this already.

Hi thank you for your email I do have the mot, I tried inputting the information last night and it wouldn't work, so I'm going to wait until I get log book back from DVLA,

As for this model of car where would I stand if I started having oil problems such as the guzzling of oil you mention ? Does Toyota cover this then ? I will be keeping a eye on it every week from now on, I'm more worried about oil guzzling now than anything, do Toyota replace the engine if I start having problems with it guzzling ?

Toyota extended the warranty for oil burning to 7yrs/112k miles - it's not really a problem as long as it's kept topped up.

Hi thank you Blackcts, really appreciate your help and everyone else in this great forum, I will contact Toyota shortly n try n find out information service history etc on my car, plus where I stand if I start having this guzzling oil problem, I've had the car just two weeks yesterday I will keep a sharp n close eye on the oil, silly question but what oil should I put into my engine ( recommended ) ?? As I did not have a manual with my car service manual etc. Which grade of oil is recommended for 1.8 VVTi t3s 2003

Thank you all in advance,

Neil

You don't really have any comeback unfortunately as the car is 10 years old. But worry not, enjoy driving the car and just top it up when it needs it. 5w30 semi or fully synthetic of any brand would be perfect for your engine.

Hi

Grease is the word! - or in my case I removed the small panel above the pedalis and used some WD40 with the little tube attachment and directed the WD40 into the end of the clutch cable and around the pedal hinge mechanism. Problem solved - very satisfying after main dealer had suggested a £900 replacement clutch & linkage.

Give it a go.

Obviously WD40 as worn off, ;-( May have to ring dealer up again whole thing is so annoying, they should of done job properly in first place stripped it down n greased it up, Grease is the word !! Thank you Blackcts for advice & everyone else who as commented on my post, this is a great forum.

Checked oil today too it's not moved sincebi checked it last weekend so that's good news, I've done about 600 miles since I've had car in two weeks ;-) oil ain't moved so hopefully I got a good engine ;-)

Hi

Just wanted to share me experience with this problem on a 1.8 T3-X since owning this model for a year and a half. I also had the squeaky clutch problem which as other members have said is helped by spraying with something like WD40, but for me it was only a temporary solution and it soon came back. I did read somewhere might have been a post on this forum of an issue with the clutch master cylinder so decided to replace it along with the clutch slave cylinder when I serviced the car and that has fixed the problem for me. The Master cylinder was £124 from Toyota and the slave cylinder which I purchased at Eurocarparts came to £53. The brake master reservoir supplies the clutch cylinder as well so I took the opportunity to bleed the brakes the same time. Not sure how much a garage would charge for this sort of job if you wanted to have this done.

Hi Leighton thank you for this advice & info, I just looking at my terms n conditions in my Warantee both these items are covered, so shouldn't the Dealer I purchased car off Mazda Newport replace these items ?

Hi Neil

This should be the case but proving whats actually wrong might be a problem. I was trying to be thorough when I replaced both items, and this was based based on this following or similar thread which points towards the master cylinder as being suspect.

http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/79005-clutch-stiff-heavy-to-press/

Never queried Toyota on this at the time just replaced it.

Leighton very interesting post, trouble is how do I convince dealer that this is a known problem with the master cylinder ?

http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/79005-clutch-stiff-heavy-to-press/

Would my local Toyota test this for me ? So I have some solid confirmation that it is faulty ? Do Toyota Charge for looking at this ? Even though car is old but still low miles ?

Here we are on page 5...........................

In POST NUMBER 3 I told you there are issues with the master and slave cylinders on this model. That makes it a HYDRAULIC clutch

For the love of dog.......................

Hi Kingo lol sorry about that, well I'm still having issues with clutch plus I've noticed the gears are getting harder to select ? I've rang Dealer who I bought the car of & I told him that there is a known problem with the Master Cylinder on this car, he's told me that he will get back to me within hour as he needs to research this problem, Meanwhile I rang Cardiff Toyota, I explained the situation to them & asked them if there are any known issues with clutch squeaking etc, they told me there is none on my model, cause I'd also mentioned to them that I'd joined Toyato forum. They told me it would cost £102.00 for a hour diagnostic.

What is confusing about it all is My local Toyota Dealer in Cardiff saying that there is no issue on my car, yet this Toyota Forum is saying that there are issues with Master Cylinder & salve etc,

Why would I be having issues with gears now as well ? As the clutch is up high could this be causing difficulty with gears ?

Thank you gents

Neil
