How To Remove Verso Tr Overhead Console?

Recommended Posts

Hi

My interior lights stopped working when the doors were opened.

I traced the problem to a broken rocker switch, which sets the interior lights mode (off/door/on), in overhead console above the rear view mirror.

However, to fix the problem I need to remove the whole console assembly.

It appears to held to the roof by two white plastic "plugs". I have tried pulling on the console but I does not want to move.

Can any one please advise how I should remove the overhead console without breaking it?

TIA

Richard

I have the same problem (overhead interior lights don't work when door is opened - however footwell lights do work).

I managed to prise the whole unit out of the roof but it was already a bit loose I think. One of the white platic plugs is stuck in the metal housing in the roof and I can't get it out. So not sure that this reply is much help really.

How did you work out that the rocker switch is broken?

If I press the two lights either side of the switch (to put them into 'always on mode') then they both work. Do you think the rocker switch can be replaced on its own?

Hi

I talldave - you have the same symptoms as me.

I too managed to prise the whole assembly out - not an easy task, thought I was going to break it....

The remaining white plastic plugs came out with some cheap wire strippers which hooked behind the clip then pulled.

This type of stripper: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blue-Spot-08190-Inch-Strippers/dp/B000LP9X3E/ref=zg_bs_1939061031_5

The lighting rocker switch can be prised off its pivot. Behind it there is a plastic triangular web that protrudes about 25 mm.

On the end of the plastic web a spigot sticks out at 90 degrees and a brass "tyre" fits over the spigot.

The brass tyre runs along metal fingers and makes the circuit between the fingers to operate the interior lights.

On my car the plastic pigot has melted & distorted, probably beacuse the brass tyre has got hot due to contact resistance.

Now the brass tyre does not run along the metal fingers = no electrical contact = no lights!

I pushed the tyre back to where it should be & the lights worked - then the tyre popped off again...

I went into the local Toyota dealer today. A new switch assembly is £62 inc VAT!

Thanks for the useful info - I will have a look at mine and see if I have the same problem.

As a follow up

The new switch / front light assembly (Pt no 84170-0F040) no longer has a rocker switch. The rocker has been replaced with two push switches.

Interior lights are now fully functional.

Hi

just bought me a 2009 Verso quite cheap. Think the engines quite sound at 77K but has its little faults including the light console which i've now fixed.

The console was yanked from its position but i can now see that there are four push button fitting tabs in each corner which can be pressed with a small flat bladed screwdriver. Then you have to overcome the four plastic plugs which hold it to the roof.If any get left behind when the consoles out, you can prise it off with the screwdriver.

it appears the brass spigot was ok but the plastic carrier may have deformed a little and made the spigot lose touch with the metal contact fingers. My solution was to bend the fingers towards the spigot with a small hooked dowel.

Important to note that the neutral/home position of the switch contacts must be slightly less pronounced than the constant light on contacts in order to work correctly.

Also taking the hands free microphone out of its position helped with the re-seating of the switch where i used the space to insert the screwdriver and twist apart plastic surfaces to push-fit back home one of the two pivot tabs on the switch.

Now i have to tackle the EGR as I seem to only get 44 MPG on motorway journeys if the computers to be believed.

Hope this helps someone.
