Looks like I can pimp our RAV just by knowing all of you! :)

Charly, I will definitely be interest in your excess rubber, and the Lindon possibly later. I will have to consult my wallet to when I can, as I am a bit skinned at the moment. Originally we are from South Africa, Cape Town area and we are going through visa applications which is a heck of a lot of money. (thousands!)

Do you have a price in mind for the tyres?

(..then a newby question? What does the quote and muti-quote means by theend of each reply / post.)

Thanks BK for mentioning about the waterless cleaning. I have only used it on my EP3 type R yet. Not on the RAV. You have a very good point..

Let me measure the tread later.. These tyres were on my car for one summer so I would say 6mill of tread remaining.. They have had No punctures never been kurbed or used off road.... They are a premium brand and cost well over a ton each so with that in mind how does £150 for the four sound ? £50 of this will go direct to Macmillan nurses..... I have a pal who travels up and down the country as he is a lorry driver so may be able to arrange a meet other than that arranging a courier would have to be down to you mate.....

I would pick them up and deliver them to you, Nico..........but at that price, I would probably lose your address by accident and drive back to Scotland with them.........LOL.

Good wan Charlie min..........forum wins again.

Since I personally will NOT benefit from this transaction, I respectfully suggest it be moved to the For Sale section. Forthwith all such great offers should be addressed in the first instance via me, and I will veto them as a favour to fellow members. Tee Hee........

Charlie! Wow,

Very good deal and supporting a good cause. I am happy to accept that. Can we do the deal end of Oct. My in-laws are visiting for 3 weeks, so we will be in and out on holiday. Is it possible for you to keep them untill end of the month.

We should probably have taken this off-line.... seems like these tyres could be intersepted and taken to Scotland. :)

We are off to transport museum now in London, so until later. Have a good day all. (Another lovely day in Kent!)

Thank you so much.

Nico

Hi BK, you know I was referring to myself hey.. :)

Is that your RAV in the profile pic. (Really nice!) Initially I wanted to go for the face-lift with the 150 bhp engine, but they were still just a notch too expensive for me.

What do you get economy-wise?

Should we stop this Forum string as it can go on forever..! I will let you guys know how I get on with my issue's... (I mean my RAV's issues..)

Time for a coffee and then an early night as the kids are in bed now.

Have a good week all..

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi all,

Just an update on my RAV's starting problem. Yesterday I took it to Toyota in Tonbridge. I got there 12h40, and they were still keen to have a quick look at my RAV, ... even when the work shop closed at 13h00. I was very impressed with them. They took the key straight from me and offered a cuppachino..

They said it sounds like a starting problem, but my RAV is booked in for the 1st of Nov for a thorough check (with oil levels also to be checked. I will keep you updated for the records.

(Paul, do you have a new RAV! Looks nice. Let us know how your fuel consumption is.)

Have a good week all

Nico

Bear in mind that it is seemingly normal for a T180 to turn over slowly........ All diesels are high compression and I wonder it the T180 has a bit more compression than say an XT ? Probably not but they do turn over a bit slow when cold.

Hi Charlie,

I must say I was wondering the same thing about a slightly higher compression maybe. 180 bhp is quite a lot more than 136. I guess the fact that it sometimes doesn't start on the 1st press of the button, is the concern.

Then about those tyres, I hope it's locked up in case Big Kev wants to snatch them.. :) Charlie, how regular does that friend drive up and down the UK?

Cheers

Nico

Hi Nico

The T180s a great car, you wont be disappointed, especially with the chipkit.

Don't know if you have any warranty, but

whilst your Ravs at the dealers its worth asking them to check for any corrosion of the fuel pipe.

@ Paul:

Thanks a lot for the info. It is much appreciated. I will definitely ask about the fuel pipe,.. and once I have money I will check out that Lindon Kit.

@ Charlie:

I hope your friend gets better soon and that it's not too serious. I'm in no hurry as my runflats still have enough thread to go through winter, but as soon as there's an opportunity,... then let me know. I am looking to replace my Civic Type R as well, so you never know, maybe if there's one close to you, I can always come back with it with 4 tyres in the back (seats down :)

Update on starting issue:

So my T180 was at Toyota today to diagnose the starting problem. Indeed it was the starter motor and they are quoting £640 parts and labour. Hopefully the 15 month warrantee that came with the car will cover this, but I will know on Monday. (They gave me a new Auris Estate hybrid to drive today. Very smooth car, but they should have put a calendar in it, in stead of a speedometer as it took most of the day to pick up speed. :)

Proves the value of paying that bit extra, giving you a dealership warranty.

I would expect a starter motor will be covered.

Glad it wasn't expensive Nico ....................Mmmmmm

You have to bear in mind these engines are slow turning over first thing ... If its covered by the warranty then ace but if its not then leave it till it gives final notice.... Unless it has of course ?

I know that my T180 is in the Avensis guise! But mine turns over like a steam train and starts as soon as I turn the key! I changed the Battery about 8 months ago to a Bosch silver 5 year warranty one from Costco👏👍😎

Mine is quite slow Tim...... Asked the question here not long ago as I was suspecting maybe the glowplugs might need changing and it was commented on that these engines are a bit slow..... Daft as it may sound it seems to turn over faster when its colder.... Anyway it always starts..

I too changed to a massive Bosch Battery as big and powerful as I could get...
