Take care removing them guys, you never know if some grease monkey(technician sorry) has been swinging on his spanner putting em in..and they can be badly carbonned to the cylinder head as well.

Torque them to 11.3 Nmm. .(Courtesy of Don.)

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Cheers.............

It may or not be relevant, but ever since I have had my t180, I press the start burton and some times the engine starts, other times it doesn't. I think the time difference between depressing the the clutch and start button Is key. Anyway always starts if I press it a second time afterwards.

There is always a catch Charlie. Get the engine hot and use a single hex socket. If it starts to tighten coming out just keep easing it back in and the undo a 16th more each time. You might be lucky and they will screw straight out but if tight take your time. If they take an hour each it is easier than breaking one in.

.......proving the times that I think Chris Tech01 put up years ago (sure it was him.....) that showed the glowplugs continue to heat for some time after initialialising heat.

Question.......so on the push button start, does one press twice for accessories to come on/ignition, wait a wee minute, then press brake and start button.....?

If the plugs don't come out with relative ease I will leave them to the pros. .... Thanks for the info Don on how to back them in and out and that is what I did with the daughters Fiesta last week when a plug was corroded in ... Took ages but it came out in the end...

I'm hoping the fact that they have only been in the car for. 18 months or so will mean they are not too bad.... I know my limits and will work within them ...

How are those white plastic caps held on. ?? Are they threaded ??

Is copper slip the best thing to smear the threads on the new plugs with ??...

I always use copper ease on spark plugs or glow plugs when I put them back in🚘

Seeing as your engine is fairly new Charlie you shouldn't have any issues with carbon build up on the threads, youll be fine.

Whereas mine which had probably never been touched for 65k mls were baked solid to the head with carbon, and two of them snapped first turn of the spanner,at about five threads down..

In hindsight its probably worth spraying carb cleaner down the plug,go and have a cuppa, and when you get back hope it seeped down the threads and loosened off any carbon.

Won't do any harm anyways.

The white plastic things come off easy. You can usually get them unscrewed with your fingers but if a dealer rock ape put them on you can loosen them with a screwdriver first.

Carb cleaner ? Really ??.... What I have done this evening is spray WD round each plug and will do the same tomorrow evening in preparation to swapping the plugs on Saturday.

I cant imagine said WD will or can go down very far if at all but no harm done

But Im gonna be honest here . Having looked closely this evening the existing plugs look so brand new its unbelievable.. Im thinking now these ones must surely have been replaced when the engine was last done.. They are just so shiny and new with no signs of patina or age at all....

Im also thinking while the car starts every time its maybe not the plugs ?

When I press the button its a case of slow turn over but instant start...

Will still put the new ones in though just to be sure I'm just not convinced.

You've even got me confused now Charlie ;-)

You've spent £80 so why not use em?

So what have I done starting this post... Causing Charlie to spend £80.. :) Well, I think I might take the plunge too with new glow plugs.

An update on my starting issue.. The warrantee on the car wont cover the whole bill, so the car dealer (CountryCarsales in St Albans) where I bought it from agreed to cover the lot and they even arranged for me to go to a garage around the corner from me in 7Oaks. How is that for service. I am so pleased with them.

Well, if it's not the starter and maybe only the glow plugs,...at least I have a new starter. I might as well also buy new glowy's and have them fitted by the garage too.

Charlie, if you want your £80 back, I can always take them over if you want to stick to your current one's. Just have to cover the postage then. Let me know, otherwise I will just order for myself.

Have a good weekend all. (I'm not working on Friday's :)

Paul as in my post above I am going to fit them.... No use sat in a tool chest !!

But as said above when I went out to put some WD (inspired by your post about carb cleaner) and looked at the closely I am seeing what just has to be recent parts. !!!!

Nico .. It is still my plan to fit them...

The very least I will do is remove the existing ones and re fit them but ensureing they are properly lubricated with copa slip IF it turns out they are new .... But I bought them to fit .,..,,

Hi there,

That is a shame. He was always there to help and give support. Do you maybe have personal contact details of him?

Thanks. Nico
