I Failed My Driving Test...

yes, i failed it yesterday, so i now have my car sat outside, taxed, insured and ready to go and all i can do is sit here staring at the f :censor: g thing.

i got in the wrong lane at a roundabout ( he said take the 2nd exit, which i presumed would be straight ahead, but was about 3 quarters of the way round), then on the way back, indicated too early (he said take 2nd exit to the left, but i wasnt rlly listening, and indicated as if i was gonna take the 1st).

Granted, i made the 1st mistake myself, and it was my fault, but i blame my instructor for the rest. he left his mobile in the car, which started going off shortly after id messed up at the roundabout. it kept going off, so the examiner told me to pull over. The convo ran:

"Right james, im afraid im going to have to terminate the test, that's far too much of a dstraction. Is it your phone or your instructor's?"

"My Instructor's"

"Well, im afraid i'll have to terminate the test"

"Can i not just turn it off?"

At which point he took a minute to think, and rather reluctantly agreed. i was already nervous, but that really broke my concentration - i knew i was driving crap after that. so im just really p :censor: d off now. i picked up 8 minor faults, and the combination of those other two together made me fail. and yet, i know someone who hit the curb when doing a parallel park, and was passed. im not happy!

Don't worry about it mate, I failed my first bike test for riding too fast. Passed on my second attempt and the examiner said "well done, but you really need to speed up a little"

Just put it behind you and re sit it as soon as you can. And good luck

I passed my test first time on a Friday, having first driven a car on the Monday :P

But I was already an IAM biker-type ;)

And i failed my first bike test when a dozy bird ran a red light and made me stop in a box junction while she figured out what to do!

It happens to us all, just keep your head and go for it the second time d00d!

Don't worry m8, I failed twice before passing

granted the first time I was rather cocky having only had 5 lessons...

The second time though I was really, seriously gutted, I could have cried!

Anyway, try not to take it to heart too much (easy to say I know)... if an examiner doesn't want you to pass... you will not pass on that day. They word instructions during the test to confuse you... scummy really, considering you're already a bag of nerves with a guy you've never met before sitting next to you.

Just pick yourself up, book your next test tomorrow and start practicing again! Don't leave it months whatever you do, it'll only get worse

Put it down to a learning experience James, next time you'll be better prepared :D

You could even book your next test to take it in your car, I found that helped me alot when I took my test in the yaris.. felt more familiar :)

bad luck mate! :crybaby: i only passed mine on the 3rd attempt, got failed twice for the most stupid excuses. You’d probably already failed as soon as the examiner knew it was your first test!!

Keep at it

This must be so disappointing for you. We must have the hardest test in the world now. Look at it this way - it can't get any worse - you will pass one day and it will be even sweeter then when you do.

Used to be able to put in for a cancellation straight away and could get another test in a week or two - does it still work like that ?

Another thing - you sound like a sensible driver - you fully understans where you went wrong - but there are people on the roads today who have never taken a test :ffs: crazy.

unlucky mate

believe it or not they DO have a list of who will pass and fail on the day. the girlfriend has a sheet documenting on who will/wont that she liberated from the examiner when she failed once.

i have seen it and it is fully legit, cant really do nowt about it tho because she technically 'stole' it so any legal proceeding could backfire!

if shes still got it ill post a snippet up on goldies only!

all the luck next time anyways mate

I passed my test 14 years ago... But I did fail the first time (parralell parking). It didn't help that the examiner was a complete :censor: t and stressed me out more. But what is meant to be is meant to be - by taking your test again may make you a better driver

:ffs: I heard about something like that! They decide before hand who will fail and who will not, this is because theyve got to fail so many in a designated number, because if they pass everyone, then the board or sumit like that will think theyre not doing their job properly.

What knob heads :ffs:

yep thats rite m8 i've also heard of things like that,

Also depending o nwhere u live there can be a couple of different test centres near u that take u on diff routes (3 near me). b4 i took my test i checked em out and did a little background check on em all. i went for the test centre that had the least first time failures, and u know what? i passed first time, albeit by a hairs breadth... think i got 13minors or summin that was a borderline fail. cant rem what they were all for but i got a couple for stopping in a bustop, ragging it in 3rd when i shoulda switched to 4th, going too slow... can't rem ne others.

Just make sure u keep practising m8. if nething a long break could do you good.

i couldnt make my initial test cos i whent off to uni in sept, so i hadta rebook it. the only time i could get was jan 1st.

i didnt even touch a car for that period of time, then prior to my lesson i'd booked an extra hrs lesson 2 get me warmed up again (was !Removed! knackered after newyrs eve like...)

here's to next time

Dont worry m8, loads of my friends failed 1st time. Luckily I got an examiner who was previously and instructor, and him and my instructor were good friends :group-cuddles: . I passed the test with 2 minors, on december 03.

Just do a hell of alot of practising and you'll be ok  .

The thing is, I heard that instructors have a quota set for them every week on how many they have to fail. :ffs:

I failed first time coz I almost crashed! :D

If ya gonna fail, you might as well go all the way. :D

There's a ratio of pass/fail, and if an instructor errs from the average, they're in the ****... which only makes things worse as the average rapidly becomes artificial!!!

i was wary of such a quota as some of my mates who had been driving almost a year seemed to failed like trhee times, and the ones who had been driving for 3-4 months like me seemed to pass....

Sorry to hear about that JT.....

The test is hard nowadays, I passed a year ago and it was nightmareish back then! All I can say is keep going, never give up and always have a positive mental attitude - YOU CAN DO THIS!!

I passed after 4 attempts, after making very stupid errors in my other tests, but I did it eventually - and so can you aswell!!

Just means that when you do pass (and you will!) that you can celebrate all the more!

cheers for all the comments

ive told my instructor to put me straight in for a cancellation, but if he starts messing me about, then ill have to do it on my own in my car (even though im more used to his, lol). thats what made worse as well - i brought my car home (as it was in a relative's garage) the day before my test, so i have to keep seeing it sat outside as i get the bus! :crybaby:

still, i suppose it'll make passing all the more special

BTW JT for future reference, if the instructor says straight on, that means stay in left, and indicate as nessary, BUT if he says 2nd exit, look at signs, But they only say that if its after straight on. I think! :S

Oh, And if the waiting list is too long, invest in a trip to whitby, and take your test there, the waiting list is only two week and the quota seem to be a bit fairer, thats what my mate did...

Cheers
