Rotten luck mate.

The only advice I can think of is get a towbar fitted. My Audi has been rear ended twice and survived due to this.

the chap seemed quite reasonable, even rang up last night to check. not much good if car is write-off :(

other insurance comp has also rung to offer assistance.

if it is write off , wahat is acceptable to claim for: i.e. lost time, inconvinience etc.

any suggestions.

Vmail, regarding your remark: it was a rear end shunt, they can change it as many times as they want, they r still at fault.

r gonna look for a new corolla just incase today, and hopefully finalise buying my dads Prius if i can find a delaer that doesn't tell porkies throught his teeth.

saw a car at main dealer yesterday, where oil didn't even came to dipstick. started running very quickly. :!Removed!:

At least everyone was okay, Im guessing it must have been a pretty big shunt.

claiming for inconvinience will help u get a little extra so its ur call!

if your forced to get a rental car make sure u keep reciepts as you can claim this off the other guys insurance. also the main point it to get a sensible car on rental. i.e. not a "sports" car or the like. as the insurance company will only turn round and say at the worst that u got an impracticle car so they wont pay the rental fees, or pay a substantially reduced amount.

looking for a car have a quick skeg at these:

http://www.keighleycartradecentre.co.uk/keighley.htm

they look to have some decent cars there at good prices, cheers for that link EircamAE86

oh & b4 ne1 claims i'm an insurnace skanking git let me tell u that i'm claims free (touch wood) :P

did hav a rear shunt but that was resolved w/o insurance agencys.

got the other fella to pay for repairs to my car.

Im a claims adjuster in the insurance game

Mitigate your losses! Which means keep your losses to a absolute low. Most insurance companies will take back the courtesy car when they advise the car is a write off and you accept their settlement offer. So a good way to hang onto the courtesy car that bit longer is dont accept their first offer of settlement. This will enable more time in the courtesy car and another plus is they may come back with a higher offer. If you have to hire your own car you must mitigate your losses by getting the cheapest car posible or at least nothing more fancy or bigger than the car damaged, the insurer by common law could refuse to pay the hire charge if you dont. If you have legal cover on your policy you should get appointed a solicitor. You can claim through them any uninsured losses (they must be true losses!) You can claim for things that you can document. Loss of earnings, Hire Charges, Personal Injury, Personal items, Loss of holiday, Loss of general out of pocket expenses.

Good luck buddy, speak to the insurer on a level dont try and take the :censor: they deal with claims every day and will be able to see straight through you, if you try and inflate the claim to more than it is

Really sorry to hear about that - thank god your wife and little lad were ok!

When I had my accident, my insurance co gave me a car for 2 weeks (which I would have had to have given back if my old car was a write off, which it wasnt)

Anyway, through my insurance I got appointed a solicitor who is taking care of my out-of-pocket expenses, which includes time off work, injury and the cost of acquiring a new form of transport - obviously they advised me to not get a better car than the one I had had the accident in, as the third party insurers can contest the claim, so if you get a small replacement car (Fiesta, Corsa, Punto etc) then you should be able to get the cost of hiring that back.

Although hire cars are not cheap, I was quoted £250 a week to hire the tiniest 1.0 Ford Fiesta (the cheapest car they had!) so in the end I borrowed my other halfs Peugeot 206 instead!

Hope it all gets sorted soon anyways rickers! :group-cuddles:
