Spark Plugs

hi guys,

need some advice concerning spark plugs on my 2008 prius gen2.

on my last service at 40k with Toyota desperately plugs were not touched,I queried as to why plugs were not changed.the dealer replied not due till 60k miles.is that right,I'm thinking of checking them myself and hence how easy is it to take them out and give them a clean.

my tyres are coming to an end so need some help in choosing please,I'm thinking of trying out dunlop blueresponse,

It would be surprising if your Prius had done 40k miles on the same set of plugs, when were they last changed?

On my Picnic, the mechanic changes the plugs every year, even though I do less than 6k miles per year with it. Personally I think that that is unnecessary, the removed plugs always look good to me.

I think you can now get long life plugs bit expensive,I'm going to take one out and see what's it like

They are long life Iridium tipped spark plugs and 60k sounds about right for the service interval I've also seen mention that you should apply anti-seize on the spark plug thread if you replace them.

Try the above link it may help. I think your dealer is right about the 60,000 miles. My sons Gen 2 did over that mileage without any problems with spark plugs.

Hi there

Age is also a factor. My car had its sixth birthday service (having covered 40K, not the anticipated 60K) and they changed the plugs. I can't remember how much they charged me for them but I can confirm they charged an eye-watering £9.50 for a routine Battery change in the key remote control. I was going to complain but then I noticed it was on the schedule.
