Change Bulbs Of My Speedometer

Hai,

I want to change the lights of my speedometer.

Is this possible and if so, which bulb do I need? How mant watts is a bulb?

And most important, how to get the speedometer out of the dash?

If Toyota have not changed the bulb spec from the Mk1, your Mk2 should use the same R284, 12v, 1.2w bulb. Other option is the R509 of the same rating but with the holder.

I cannot really say how you access your models instrument panel, but the following may apply.

Lower the steer wheel.

Undo screws securing the instrument panel surround, and remove the surround.

Undo screws from the instruments and pull it forward, then tilt the top towards you so the back is pointing up.

You should the see the bulb holders.

Locate and check the one you need to change. It might be better to remove the bulb first and take it to the shop.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your help!

Any idea how many bolts are fitted in the display of the speedometer?

2 bolts are shown. Look around and feel for the holes. On my car the screw holes are in upper part but yours are lower down. There may be tags holding the display in place.

What you need to do is observe how everything is put together.

Unfortunately there is no Haynes manual for the Mk2 Avensis. There may be pdf files on how to dismantle Mk2 dash to change the bulbs.

Thanks Micheal for your answer.

Sorry, don't understand what you mean...(dumb dutchman here).

If you mean how too finf out how many bulbs I need, how to replace etc, then I hope that I can get all the help I need.

I forgot to ask 1 question: can i still adjust the new bulbs' sharpness?

Pete,

This is a perfect example of where the Haynes manual would have helped.

Anyway as you said, this is what the forum is about.

Top bloke.
