Electrics Cut Out When Trying To Start Engine

Dear All

I have a Avensis 2000. when i turn the key in the ignition to the start position i hear a loud "click" from the engine and with that all the electrics cut out.

Jump starting it always works and the electrics seems to reset itself !!

disconnecting the Battery by removing the live for a few seconds also resets it however often it cuts out again as soon as i retry to start.

When disconnecting the Battery whilst it's cut out a beeping sound goes on in the engine compartment (front right) for a few seconds, the same happens when opening any of the doors.

I've been trying to lock manually with the key rather than using the remote so that the car doesn't alarm, this may help some of the time.

Is my imobiliser faulty?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

3 things to check. As already mentioned Battery 1st then alternator. Get the starter checked as well because when they start to fail they draw a huge current, reducing the Battery voltage too low so the electronics switch everything off.

My starter killed a brand new Battery when it gave up. Lucky for me Toyota gave me a new battery under warranty.
