Best Protection For A Polished Rim?

Firstly.... Any Mods, please DO NOT MOVE this post! If I wanted it in General Discussion, or whatever, I would have posted it there myself in the first place. I am looking for advice and opinion from members who I know I can rely on from previous history and postings. Thank you.

Right ... On with the question...

The attached picture is of one of a set of Triumph Stag wheels circa 1974 which now have been restored back to OEM type finish with Powdercoated finish and remachined spoke and rim highly polished and lacquered.

The customer is coming to pick up the wheels tomorrow (replacing his wire wheels with these as part of the resto) and I would like to advise him of the best product to protect the wheels (usually I only have a paint or powdercoat finish and don't have a bare metal finish).

Any recommendations I can pass over to him for caring for polished wheels?

TIA.

Ah think Charlie hit it on the head David when he started sealing wheels with GOF Collinite 476 Wax. I would however stress that its longevity will naturally be shortened by use of any wheel cleaners, including the non acid varieties.

Best person to ask is me mate Charlie on here👍👨

I too suspect that Charlie will recommend the Collinite. Mild soap and water for cleaning only when wheels cold

Agree with Kev here David, it was Charlie who put me on to collinite 476 for the Rav alloys, it's superb. I have a neighbour with a pristine E-type on wire wheels and a Stag in similar condition, he spends hours cleaning them, will ask him for you shortly…...

There really is no better more durable product than 476S .....

I have tried many of the so called wheel sealants and specialised products but I put Colinite on the wheels of a the cars we have and it's doing a great job for very little money...

Kev is right about wheel cleaners degrading it but it's awesome durability means it will last 3 months in the winter....

I thought collinite would get mentioned but just in case there was something better for polished :)

I will tell him use that for protection, but just the mildest neutral shampoo for cleaning (and DEFINATELY no acid or alkaline cleaners).

Cheers :D

Edit...

Quick phone call………He's using Swissvax autobahn wheel polish, to be honest it sounds like expensive Collinite to me, it states it's safe on alloy and magnesium wheels.

Further Edit, Just picked myself up off the floor when I looked at the price…..

G technik c5 is a great wheel protector, £26 for 25 mls, expensive but my son swears by it. Will just about do 8 wheels.

25 quid for 25 mils......

The whole detailing scene is now full of wonderful ideas about how this or that wonder product is going to re invent the wheel.... Tell you what and I stake my reputation on this MOST of it is utter cobblers... Sorry but it just is... Kings new clothes syndrome I call it.................

I used to do the detailing circuit and mostly was involved in machine polishing.. Giving demonstrations which basically involved showing newcomers how simple the job could be.... Now the scene is awash with fancy gear and fancier ideas and marketing aimed at just one thing.... Parting folk from their coin...

I no longer take part in demonstrations and for one major reason.. Cost... Not for me but for the people going along to the meets now being asked to part with sometimes a hundred quid to be shown what we used to show for nout.....

At one meeting I was party to a manufacturer saying his latest wax was (To use Kevs filter busting words) far king rubbish but idiots will believe anything so why should I not relieve them of their hard earn t....

My rather long winded point is that while many of these new fangled products are very good... Very good indeed they are NO better than many of the good old fashioned stuff I/We have been using and using since way before the word "Detailing" made its way over the water from the USA.....

To those who believe the hype.... Good luck there will always be someone in marketing who will celebrate the money you spend......

Me .... Well you know where I stand.....

Colly is the longest lasting most durable car wax I have ever encountered.. Trust me I have had and do have many many such products.... Wheels are in the harshest environment on the car that we treat with protectants..

In summer I like Chemial Guys Jetseal 109 for its simplicity in application and ease of use... In winter because I want and demand the best possible durability though it must be said not the easiest product to use I use Collinite 476S.........
