The pre face lift 140 engines have a tendency to drink oil, so with the prices between pre and post face lift cars being so small, you'd be crazy to buy an early example.

Look for 52 plate onwards with the optional "Premium Pack". The pack consists of Leather/Climate Control/Sunroof.

Good luck in your search :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Over the last 18 months I have looked at ALOT of celica's.

They tend to come in two "usage" forms.

Type 1:- Looked after real nice, nice clean oil, lots of service history, when you take off the oil cap the inside of the engine IS NOT brown. Not been thrashed, pedal rubbers not worn out, good consumables, owned by someone who does not think it is a race car.

Type 2:- Owned by someone who thinks its a race car, trashed often, oil not changed enough and ran dry at times, inside of the engine under the cap is stained heavy brown/black. This engine has a limited service life. Often is starting to rattle already.

Then there are some half way between the two!

People go on about the pre facelift pistons and the later ones. Yes it is an improvement. But I also think if you thrash the pants off a later one and don't look after the oil then it will end up ruined.
