Hi people.

I have just brought myself a Carina II XL Matchplay as a practical runabout (also own a Nissan 200sx) and i just thought i would come on here to get educated about them :D

Its a J plate with 73k on the clock, has a few problems that i hope can be sorted cheaply

Firstly one of the CV's is slightly knocking on full lock on righthand bends (roundabouts etc) anyone any idea of cost of a new unit (preferably pattern part)

Also the rear leccy windows dont work on any buttons, would this be more likely a fuse or is this a common fault.

Otherwise it seems a good runabout :)

Whats the code for the engine as well?

Cheers

Not sure how to fix your problems but I know that electric windows do tend to play up a bit on them after a while.

The knocking could be the steering rack if it's doing it on full lock although it's more likely your suggestion.

As regards the engine code I assume it's a 1.6 in which case the code is 4-AF.

It should be a good runabout at that mileage, these things have been known to run for more than 400k.

Don't know about the price of the CV joint but with regards to the rear windows, as they don't tend to get used much the motors can sieze, it's a case of removing the door cards then motor, stripping & relubricting. Not too difficult, a mornings work I'd say. Engine, as James says 1.6 is 4-AF, 2.0 is 3S-FE.

Re the CV Joints knocking:

Don't rush into changing the joints - Best check the backing plate behind the brake discs. These are notirious for coming into contact with the discs as they age and corrode- They only make a catching/clicking noise when on full lock. Has happened with all of my Toyotas.
