Engine Management Light

This morning, My toyota avensis gs 2001 felt as if it was about to stall. It was mis firing, after 3-4 mins the engine management came on and off. The engine light was flashing on and off every second which obviously means something.. I turned the car around and drove home waited a couple of mins then turned the car ignition again and the problem all started again. I have a feeling spark plugs need to be replaced?

Call the garage and they want £50 just for diagnostics check!

If anyone has advice on this subject I'm all ears!

Regards

Brett

Was going to ask if this was a petrol or oil burner?!... But then I saw the spark plug bit! A cheap code reader can be bought off eBay for way less than £20!

When was the fuel/air filter last changed? MAF cleaned? Start with them and spark plugs if not got a code reader. Could be the cool pack???

You really need some fault codes to know where to start...🚗💨

Exact same thing happened to myself 3 months ago, turned out cam gasket was allowing oil to seep into sparkplug well, had to replace a coil as it had split badly, Replaced cam gasket, refer to owners manual for torque settings when tightening camcover again, job quite easy to complete without need for a garage..This could be causing the misfire, its a matter of elimination but i would check plugs/coils first...
