Disabling The Seat Belt Alarm On A Iq

Does anyone know how to do this ?

I live down a quite long single track "private lane" and drive quite slow down it and I often don't put my seat belt on until I reach the public road.

The seat belt buzzer / alarm It gets very loud before I reach a public road, and I would just like to disable it.

Please don't ask me just to put my seatbelt on if I wanted to do that I would not be writing this post.

I have tried the below That (found on another IQ website) it did not work for me:

1.) Power on (ignition on will do)

2.) Set trip/ODO to ODO (if its already on ODO you will have to cycle through)

3.) Power off

4.) Power on w/brake on

5.) (Within 6 seconds), press and hold the ODO for 10 seconds or more

6.) While STILL holding the ODO *after 10 seconds*, buckle BOTH seat belts. Now release the ODO

7.) You will see in the trip display either a "b on" or "b off"

8.) Press the ODO to toggle between "b on" or b off" YOU WANT "b off"

9.) Now power off.

NOTE –If Battery is disconnected, you may lose your setting. Default is always "b on"

Anyone got any better ideas other than a dummy seat belt clip !

Positive Regards, Bob.

I am SURE its an option that the dealer can do and you can ask for. They may give you the third degree but tell them the car is used mainly to drive around your private country estate. Failing that its simply a case of fitting a small toggle switch out of the way so you can inhibit it if you want. Or you could buy on eBay a dummy clip that plugs into the existing socket which you can eject when you want to use the belt

BTW the cables for the belt clip switch are under the drivers seat and and are a multi plug variety. I on the other hand removed the dashboard and fitted a resistor network in line with the piezo sounder. Personally for me it is far too loud and piercing to be legal. It does eventually stop but seriously effects your judgement. Interestingly, as i have the ability to switch my rearview camera on whilst not in reverse but traveling forward, . It tricks the ECU into thinking i am reversing and stops the seatbelt alarm but doesn't put the reversing light on.

The seat belt visual and audible alarms are part of EU legislation. I believe dealers can disable the audible alarm if a person has a disability that means they cannot wear a seat belt.

The seatbelt warnings can be turned on and off in the software but you'll need a dealer with the computer system to do it.

Must be easier just to put the seatbelt on at the beginning of the journey?

If the reason described is why you want it disabled,

Why not just fasten the Seat belt

& then get in and sit on it until it is time to then unfasten and put it on and fasten again.

I always have seatbelts fastened in cars so that i can lay stuff on the seats.

Personally a seat belt goes on even when just moving a car about on a driveway,

i feel naked without one on.

What is your problem with them?

Personal choice i guess. To be honest for me if it was a gentile reminder then it wouldn't "P" me off so much. It is abnormally loud at the second stage. My Verso isn't like that at all, or any other car i have driven for that matter

BTW there are some steep roads near me with a giveway at the top, that pin me to my seat when i reach it and i cant lean forward to see oncoming traffic without struggling to release the belt first!!

When driving around on the recicle-plant where I bring the stuff that is over.....like wood...clothes...steel...plastics..

I have to drive a lot..to and fro...getting in and out the car...

I allways put the passengerseatbeltthingie in the seatbelt-receiverthingie...

Now the car thinks I am wearing the seatbelt...and I can go about without the belt..

This works with any car.... also on our big Verso....

No..as I am thinking about it...I think my former boss...had the thing from the seatbelt CUT off...So he had the loose end of a belt... Bought or got it at the dealer (this was an Audi)...

Sorry buddy, I know you don't want to hear it..... but please, please just put your seatbelt on EVERY time you get in the car.

If you disable the warning buzzer I GUARENTEE that one day you'll forget to buckle up when you get to the main road. You remember at the moment because the alarm is sounding.

The day you forget is the day something will hit you as you pull out. Your certainty that you won't meet an @rsehole coming the other way down your lane is somewhat flawed. Some of the delivery driver's that come down our lane do so as if it Silverstone. The fact you may be doing 10mph is irrelevant.

Once it's disabled an important safety feature is gone. I cannot think of any circumstances under which this would be a good idea, particularly if it is just to satisfy as in your case a, frankly incomprehensible, whim.

Turn off the warning. But I repeat, you WILL at some point leave a motorway services, petrol station , car park etc without your belt on.

If you or a passenger is then injured or , God forbid, worse, good luck explaining your modification to the insurance company.

Maybe i should add this to the post of annoying things about the iQ. I have kinda forgotten how loud the second stage alarm is. Since i invisibly electronically reduced it on the dashboard circuit board. It may be possible to dealer reduce this level rather than have it turned off completely. I remember it stopped me being able to have conscious thoughts while it was sounding off. Now its a gentle bong, ish.

NOTE, The piezo itself is quite tiny about the size of a 10mm bolt head but even with your thumb over the "hole" its still deafening the high frequency passes straight through the plastic enclosure

I rather think that's the point of the alarm. To be annoying. To remind you to do something vitally important before you drive off.

I am at a loss as to why you should want to override this.

Hmmm....Dark Matter... just think of it.... I am not on any safetyissue when I put the other seatbelt in my seatbelt holder.

Cause I only do this driving on an enclosed aeria...where one has to get out of the car a lot and just drive a vew meters and get out again...

Do not see what use a belt is then... remember we have airbags too (9 to be exact)...

On the road .. when driving of course... put them on. It's a real safety issue.... Like smoking and lungcancer.

Technically the belt is there to catch the body going forwards during an impact, where the car comes to a sudden halt, due to an impact with an other object (car tree what have you). Modern seatbelts can be lengenth automaticaaly, this was not the case years ago... then you really had to strap yourself in... But people felt this a unconfortable, so they now have a slipping technique...

It's very different in a rally car...where you are strapped in with a 4 point harnas... this is to make sure you stay in that same spot...

The seatbelt is under walking speed of hardly any use...

Remember that some time ago, American cars had no belts but had big airbags... People found the belt too restricting.

I even drove a Ford, that had belts, that would come on automatically when you closed the door.... to make sure you would wear them...

With respect Peter the odd trip to the dump is not a reason to permanently disable a safety feature however much it's a pain to have to listen to beep beep beep BEEEEEEEEEEP

I agree at low speed a seatbelt is not much use but its more of a mind set thing that you absolutely do not move off until your belt is on. If you start making exceptions it's a slippery slope to forgetting . To remove the one thing that would remind you seems foolish.

The other aspect I alluded to in my earlier post is that you should maybe try telling your insurers that have tampered with/overridden a safety feature and see what kind of response you get.

If, as I suspect is common, you conveniently "forget" to tick the "modifications" box on your insurance proposal the insurers will wiggle out of paying out on a claim.

If it hasn't already been said before, what about a spare seatbelt prong? Save messing with the electrics - especially if it's working off a weighted can-bus system. Just keep it in the centre well and pop it in and out easily when you need it.

But it's OK ... :-P

Talking about things to turn off... Today on the radio...petrolheads talked about the first thing they switch off... is the ESP thing... and the restriction that comes in at about 250 kilomers/hour...

And Dark Matter ... to think about ... when comparing chances in your life expectancy... if you stop your smoking habits now... the chance you live longer is way better.... So you stop smoking first ... :-P

Just assuming you do smoke..cause about 30 percent of all males smoke....

Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco_smoking

And airpollution deaths... Here: http://www.vancouversun.com/health/pollution+nine+times+deadlier+than+crashes+researchers/9061897/story.html

This thread seems to have taken a bizarre twist. Possibly my fault.

No I don't smoke. Never have.

And I'm not risk averse. Just a bit of a martyr when it comes to wearing seatbelts and the car reminding you to put you seatbelt on again again again again and again until you do .

Why?

Let's just say if you had been a passenger in a car where your good friend died because he forgot to put on his seatbelt the annoying buzzer may take on slightly different relevance.

OK that's a much better story... Terrible thing to hear your friend died by this...

Nice to hear you do not smoke / neither do I ... This is one of the very best things to live longer... :-D

And rest assure I always use the safety things...

For instance: I do work in the garden with a chainsaw...

This with Teflon trousers...and Teflon elbow sweater... Helmet with earprotecting earmuff-things...and a front visor-shield (to protect for the chain when it jumps up).

And a pair of prep'd gloves, with a piece of Teflon inside.. All of Husquarna...

Of course the work shoes have steel-noses...

husqvarna_zps789d9f12.jpg

Back on topic....

But what I miss on the iQ...is a beeper that goes off when I put the car in reverse... I have put it on the Smart..

Cause when I am backing up on our driveway...it is hard for me to look left and right.... pedestrians can be hit if I drive un-careful backingup ... Cause the iQ is a very silent car also.. :-)

The reversing sensors beep progressively on encountering an obstacle. Maybe an add on for you Also my car beeps once when reverse is selected

Sorry mate. Just didn't have time to read the thread all the way through on a mobile phone hence my disclaimer, "If it hasn't already been said before".

But it's nice we agree :) whilst being mindful of Dark Matter's reminder on safety.

My frank opinion is to leave the buzzer alone, but I can understand the OP's reasons and hence the belt catch tenon (prong) solution as something cheap and potentially quick to sort.

I'm amazed how my post has raised so many (other) issues, It's seems that the only solution presented is the false seat belt buckle one.

Thanks all your help everyone !

Thanks David...I know...thanks... and I have those sensors also and plus the reverse camera... (the neck-hernia's)

But what I mean is this...

That the car beeps OUTSIDE when backing up... so that pedestrians hear my car..going backwards.. like a truck would do... This I have on the Smart.

It is because the lights of the iQ are different than the standard lights that have an inbuilt beeping-defice...This does not fit in the iQ light holding...

So...it is not the "parking-sensors" ... but a little piezo-thingie.. that beeps when in reverse...:-O

Over here, you can purchase high output backup light bulbs in pairs, one of which has a beeper built into same. You put it in reverse, the lights come on, and the trash truck "beep, beep, beep" commences.

We can get them in EU too via a famous auction site, although the LED variety seem more rare (and roughly 3X more expensive):

Normal incandescent bulb with bleeper: http://r.ebay.com/3kmMQF

LED bulb with bleeper: http://r.ebay.com/BzF4mA

Hi Peter, sorry I was referring to the generic idea of bleeping reverse lights without even thinking about fit! Be interesting if you can procure capless with bleeper but looking at the size, it would have to be a pretty advanced technology eh?

I would just scotch connect it across the cables and lose it in the rear light compartment if i needed one
