Hi folks,

Sort of a new member. Have had a few celicas in the past inc a ss2 import.

I got the Mrs a new car, and got her a yaris t sport for a nice price I am just looking some advice on it. 2004 plate.

The car has 160+k on it!. The previous owner gave some ***** and bull story about the odometer being in kilometres rather than miles. Tried some dash button guide to change it from the net, but it never so I am assuming its miles. The clocks are mph.

Its not burning oil (yet), would it be safe to go with a semi oil. Most sites are listing 5-30w fully for oil, but It seems really thin epically with the mileage. Would 10-30 Toyota full do the job? I have a golf turbo and use Castrol edge 5-30 and its like water after 5k miles.

Thanks :)

The spec is 5w 30 semi synthetic

Stop thinking in terms of 5w 30 looking like "water" Low viscosity oils do look like that, but it does not mean they are not up to the job. Thinner oils are better for MPG too

Kingo

5W30 is fine for the petrols; You want it nice and runny so it gets round the engine faster when cold anyway; When it heats up the 5-weight gives way to the 30-weight so it'll be good enough to protect the engine :)

Enjoy the car! It can get a bit thirsty but it's got a great engine - Very willing and fun to drive
