Shaky Exhaust

Hi

My newly acquired 2010 IQ, 15k miles has a shaky exhaust on start up and tick over.

Thought a uprated and stiffer exhaust rubber mount may help but for the age of the car it shouldn't need it.

Is this a characteristic of the car or some kind of problem?

Thanks

Sounds like the first rubber attachment thingie is worn out...

The exhaust-pipe hangs in a couple of rubber-thingies... have them checked...or replaced anyway...

Also if its the 1ltr 3 cylinder model the there is a bit of engine rock on idle. You can see the passenger seat vibrating

My view - I have a 2010 1ltr 3 cylinder manual IQ with 30,000+ miles and before my EGR was changed I had shaky exhaust and rocking engine, plus a passenger seat that vibrated quite a lot on idle, after my EGR was changed plus I also started using Shell plus V power fuel and also ran some quality fuel system cleaner through a couple of times and things are much much smoother now than before, even with a quite low 700 RPM tick over.

Each one of the above things improved the smoothness of the tick over.

I would not have thought that the exhaust rubber bushes should be worn out yet ?

Of Course i might be wrong !

It also depends upon how you are defining the level of "Engine Rock" as it is a "subjective" statement. And 3 cylinders are likely to be less smooth.

No I agree; exhaust mounts should be fine given age and mileage.

I am conscious of the egr issue.

Currently, I can't achieve higher than 55mpg and I cover motorway/A roads for 20 to 50 miles per run. The passenger seat did shake quite a bit but after v power things have settled bit only slightly. On tick over the engine visibly shakes a little but nothing that looks overly concerning. Also, when i follow the shift indicator the engine bogs and strains even on flat ground.

When I picked the car up from the dealer I was getting 60mpg avg, and that was on regular fuel.

Do the behaviours and 55mpg return sound typical of a normal runnibg IQ (or not!)?

Thanks for the replies

Remember please...that this is a 3 cylinder engine... It has an inherent balance...

Please read this...about halfway they talk about numbers of cylinders.....Here:

I personally don't believe that your IQ should be "bog and straining" on level ground when using the green "up shift" change indicator mine does not.

Well from reading associated EGR pipe posts on this forum, I believe I should be getting higher mpg than 55mpg. Coupled with pull away and gear change engine load troubles, I have booked the car in for a review of the EGR pipe.

Thanks for all of the comments and advice.

Dont forget to read Bobneale's excellent EGR letter if your thinking of having it changed as it wasnt a recall but a bulletin notice and depending on the dealer you could be arguing about payment
