Last time I checked it out you could get 15% off an XC60.

Might be worth checking out the d4 SE lux Nav, which also has xenons as standard.

If you want something faster the d5 has some oomph.

Nice balanced write-up. I'm not a fan of unbuilt navigational systems so don't miss having had to pay extra for it. Must agree with your observation about the dash though. Too US orientated. Having driven several thousand miles now some of the buttons are poorly placed and many don't have night time illumination. Still I like the overall package and very pleased I traded up.

Wonder who decided to place the starter button ? Mmmmmm

Mixed views then Charlie, did you use the 'sport' option on the faster roads ? I'm confident you can 'hammer' that price down with some shopping around..

Mate I think the "Sport" button is just on the Automatics ? Yes you are correct that price can be hammered there is an unregistered Invincible auto at Jemca Bromley for 26800 but its a grey one.

Is it time to revisit the Audi option? Q5? ( don't know their ranges :( )

Q5 is smaller than the 4.4 Rav.. My budget would buy a two year old one with around 25K miles.. Q7 is a great car I had a V8 Diesel for a while which I bought from a company that was going down the pan in 2008. Sold it for a huge profit as it was just so greedy on fuel. Hell did it go ! Flying tank !

Manual gets sport mode as well on the 4.4 Charlie, it tightens things up quite noticeably, clever torque vectoring etc, another oddly placed switch !

I don't know where the Sport switch is on the 4.4 but on the 4.3, it's not exactly handy. I can't understand why they didn't put in on the steering wheel where it would have been emminently useful. Also, I hate the fact that it switches itself off every time you kill the engine!

I've test driven one too and agree with most of what you say in your post (8)Charlie?

Its a lot of coin to Shell out for a very small gain over your T180,which IMO is still the best ever Rav?

Only when you go test driving do you appreciate it.

And not forgetting that back in 2006 the 180's were £27k+ fully loaded, iirc..equivalent to around £33k in today's money?

What a shame they messed up with the engine.

But yours has the engine change, So I'd be hanging on to it til a good SR comes along.

But I can see the lure of a brand new motor as well ;-) just the small issue of £31k to consider hmmmm.

Paul it is time for a new car but you are right the T180 despite being well over seven years still holds its own..

The PX value of my car is. £6300 now and despite it having had the engine and clutch changed along with the exhaust and brakes plus the Battery ang glow plugs last week and if course premium navigation with reverse camera it's value is no more than if it had had nothing done...

Apparently having the style pack Roof rails Genuine towing kit ect ect adds not a penny.. But I knew that .....

I'd have thought your 180 would fetch £7-8k selling privately Charlie, but it can be a lot of hastle if you don't have spare time..but you can't GIVE it away for the £6.3k they offered you P/x either.

Have you tested the VW Tiguan S line (sacrilege I know)but they're a great drive, and look superb in white.

Yes if really is a job to know what to do Paul ... The value of our cars fall so fast now.. I have the original invoice for this car and including all the bits like style pack and the genuine tow equipment it's value has dropped over three grand a year .. Now I'm always complaining about interest rates on savings but at least say another 20k saved won't dump so much money ... No pockets in a shroud though eh ???

I'm being buried at sea in a lead coffin along with my dosh.;-(

I always find the new car novelty wears off pretty quickly these days.

My best ever car was my first one..a rusty old Morris 1100 when I was a 20 yr old lad.

Stick with what you've got Charlie, its depreciation will level out now anyway.

HaHa might have to Paul. The amount to change at that dealer just to get a car as well equipped was the wrong side of. £24.000 .. That is quite a sobering thought..

Seriously though the time I used to spend making a decision on a car could be measured in minutes not days but coin is just so hard earned these days and while I accept depreciation is just a fact with cars it makes getting that decision so much more important...

I can't get my head around parting with my car for just over six grand.... I do realise the dealer has to eat but give someone a budget of say. 6500 and go find a car as well equipped and capable....

Doesent work that way though eh ......

It's well known that we never get back the value of mods and add ons. With or without Px rates are the same. I ways strip my cars of the extras and sell on privately, which earns a little for new parts on the new car. Spoilers, under runs, everything non standard to the car comes off. There is a strong market out there for mod parts.

Trying to arrange to go over to see this car tomorrow...

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201311069717866/sort/default/usedcars/postcode/wr102pa/radius/1500/transmission/automatic/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/fuel-type/diesel/model/rav4/page/5/make/toyota?logcode=p

I would have placed a deposit on it over the phone this afternoon but the Dealer will not agree the PX figure until they have seen my car..... They have offered reasonable money and I've asked for £250 more . I will be PXing at a what is really a sensible figure given that the linked car is in their word absolutely MINT and I think sensibly priced. And given my car is ready to go straight onto the forecourt as the dealer says they will retail it....
