Mr2 Turbo Engine Help! Stops Revving At 3000Rpm

Hello,

I'm new to the forum as I have just purchased an mr2 turbo. See picture :)

It starts and drives but there is a problem.

The car seems to lack power and will go up to max 3,000rpm before hitting a kind of limiter under throttle.

It doesn't idle well, it will still if the throttle isn't tapped a little.

Engine management light is on.

I have tried to do the old paper trick clip on the diagnostics to see if I can run up a code on the dash, but failed to do this.

It doesn't seem smokey at all - seems quite normal in that department.

The car won't start on ignition unless I have my foot on the throttle slightly.

The turbo gauge (between the rev counter & speedo) is on max. This could be related or a seperate problem all together.

3,000rpm is it's complete limit, it won't go higher!

Has anyone had problems like this? Does anyone know what the problem could be?
