Rav4.2 D4D Xt5 2005

Hi there.

Thought I would ask a question and in doing so try seperate all the superfluous answers. Dont get me wrong, there is lots of useful info on here but often I cant seem to seperate my Rav4s from my Rav4s. I believe lots of the info I am finding regarding issues relate to Later models (2006 onwards).

So please only answers relating to Pre 2006 2.0litre D4Ds

What I would like is as much info as possible on EGR cleaning/ blanking. Please do not respond with "oooh, you dont wanna do that!!!!" I understand that on a car that is under warranty etc you probably need to steer away from messing, but my Rav is well away from any form of warranty, and I have read lots of positive stuff and understand enough about Diesels to realise that the EGR is a pita. When I get the info as required, I will do the job, try it, and report back with good or bad results. The whole emissions system is a waste of time and expense, with the only real loser being the owner of the vehicle. I am pretty sure that the extra fuel that is burned due to all these systems, let alone the polution from their manufacture, more than balances any environmental gains.

I read something that was posted on this site that had a link to an article warning against EGR blanking. However, on inspection, it was an american site, and never once mentioned diesels. In fact on a recent 4000 mile trip of California, I dont think I saw one single diesel car. A fuel station with a diesel pump was as rare as hens teeth. It seems that the only diesel engines in the US are probably at least 6 litre. Interestingly though, a search of US truckers (diesel) forums will often reveal that they totally agree on the pros of EGR blanking. There are actually ads on US sites for specialist removal and deletion! Saying that, there is a garage only a mile from me that advertises it!

If anyone can point me in the direction of where to buy a blanking plate also this would be useful, though I am not against making one as I have sime SS plate lying around.

Thanks everyone in advance!

Said this before, I can't for the world understand why any sane person would want to put filth back in to an engine, no wonder they suffer from carbon build up, would you run your engine without an air filter? I don't think so, so for those that can without the dash lighting up, just blank the flipping thing, no more cleaning the EGR V/V.

Blank it off, but make sure it,s working ok first as the ecu reads the voltage variation.
