All the same guff, just with different coloured nobs and whistles

I like it though, seems a lot more friendly than 2k svr.

Best part of the MS 2003 catalouge at the moment is you ask me is Exchange 2k3. Lovely jubbly!

WHY???

Do you really need to migrate into one of them? Why dont you stay un Win 2000 Advance Server? Is less unstable.

Personally I dont migrate into newer versions without heavy testing and after MS have stabilized it in a decent way.

Take my advice, U dont need more headaches.

As my experience says, GET RID of XP and Install W2K, it works better.

Create a full back up of your computer/server and install W2K Pro o ADV SRV. Its always better to have a clean installation with Microsoft (they give us a headache, but also keep our jobs    )

That's what I would do.... I had horrible experiences with XP Pro :censor:

Hope this helps

backup 500GB (approx 120 DVDs)

format

install 2000 advance server (mines pro, is that the same)

reinstall software (2 week job)

but then I wont have the green start button, or multi users being logged on at the same time

Dont you have Tape Backups? I use Ultrium that has 200 Gb native without compression.

But, if you work with 500 GB, data shouldnt be in the same disk neither RAID, because data and OS must be located on independent logical disks, making possible to reinstall de OS formatting the disk without loosing data.

This problem is more complex that it seems. If you want, PM me and I can addreess you some tips if you need them.

isnt tape slow?

data (and backup OS) is on the Mirror RAID array

just OS and software on the Stripe RAID Array

do you know why my PATA Maxtors(Mirror RAID) are red hot, already had to replaced one under warrenty (they even melted the HDD coolers)

my SATA Western Digitals(Stripe) are warm

I did tell the HDDS to shut off after 10mins (that fixed the heat prob)

but that made the HDDs go out of sync so I has to re image the HDD, (2hr job)
