Damaged Rav

So after our episode with Friday's low flying wheelie bins I took the RAV to the paint shop this morning for an assessment. £330 + vat to fix.

But while I was there I counted myself lucky until I saw this one.

Imagine that you have done on a few days holiday and then return to find this at your door.

That was caused by a falling chimney stack.

The roof looks damaged too - that will be tricky to repair.

I hope you get your RAV repaired quickly but an unwanted expense at any time and always seems worse approaching Christmas.

The roof is damaged as is the rear top panel and rear door window. Front left suspension is also collapsed. Expected to be a right off.

I hope the owner had good insurance cover. I have never seen the point of GAP insurance but that poor owner is going to be seriously out of pocket if they don't have it. Looks like a 2012 RAV so will have taken a massive hit (sorry) on depreciation.

I think his neighbour should be more concerned that his house has good 3rd party liability cover.

That would be good - I thought it was his own chimney stack!

Yours was bad enough, but if it was my car that had the chimney stack on it I would have cried....

In 87 it was a bit windy down south . . .My In laws had a 10 by 12 shed roll round their garden . . . in the caravan park next door, a caravan was picked up, and deposited upside down on a new Volvo!

Yes my wife was sitting parked when fokkers ambushed her. She had just moved the car to safety as the overhead power cables feeding my house parted and came down on our roof causing some minor explosions and lots of electrical illumination. It's a source of annoyance that people leave wheelie bins out in the street all the time.

Isn't that what Volvo's are for??

Caravanners; avoid the risks of towing by using Volvo's new roof transport system!

Through fault of my own, I've just been introduced to a dent removal specialist. Hoping he can repair neighbour's car with no filler or paint for half the price VW quoted.

I am now a fan of GAP having benefited from it significantly when my car was nicked earlier this year. However ... I don't think this would be all doom and gloom if he does not have it.

When my car was stolen - a July 2011 SR 150 which I'd owned for 19 months - , my insurance company offered me a settlement figure (£19k+) that would actually have got me back in an identical RAV or possibly a little newer or less miles (and that is ignoring GAP).

the GAP settlement on top would have actually got me in a brand new 2013 RAV4.4 if I so wanted, so while GAP would be good in that situation, no GAP is not end of the world I would hope.

Good to know. Your insurance company sounds very good.

I expected a lot worse outcome then that, I cannot deny, having heard plenty of general insurance horror stories, so I was totally impressed with the service AND the speed of settlement. I was with AXA and would fully recommend them based on this experience.
