" Just heard from the Service manager who has been in contact with the Toyota rep who has examined the pictures.

His finding is the the paint job is "acceptable"..................."

I am very surprised that a decision was made based on photographs, hard to believe.

I'm guessing that you must live a fair distance from the dealership or else you would have insisted on being present so they could examine the vehicle first hand.

I live 7 miles from the dealership.

The service manager has seen the car "in the flesh" and said that it was not right.

He e mailed the photo's to the area representative for Toyota, who by looking at the photo's ,made his judgement.

The area rep probably couldn't be bothered to come and see the car at the dealership.

Don't accept this. Write an email to the CEO of Toyota and copy the dealership - that will sort it.

I agree that no judgement should be made on photo evidence. Demand on a personal inspection and if not forthcoming go to the press (and let them know that you will).

Using photographs to inspect colour is just plain impossible. Imagine taking a photo of your wall and asking someone to match the paint for you, absolutely impossible. Granted this is more about the difference between two shades, but still it needs to be inspected by eye especially as viewing angles presumably make a massive difference.

Taking the peepee; I feel bad for giving Toyota money considering how they're behaving with you :(

Hi Miseryguts. Did you get anywhere with Toyota over the paint job on your bumpers.

Yes,things appear to be moving.

I contacted Toyota customer relations (on advise from my service manager) and sent photo's and a report from the paint shot who examined my bumpers.

I spoke to the service manager on Wed and he was typing out an estimate for respray to send to the guy who rejected my claim (the area manager) who,I would imagine, has been instructed by Toyota to "re-evaluate" his last decision .

The saga continues.

Update !!!

Had a call from the service manager at my dealership.

He said Toyota wanted pictures of the REAR bumper to complete the set !!!!

I called customer relations to ask for an explanation, they said they needed the pictures for the warranty claim.

They have now got a set of pictures plus a written report from a independent paint shop,my inside leg measurement, plus a copy of my passport.

In 50 years of motoring I have NEVER had dealings with such a pathetic excuse for a company.

I read somewhere that Toyota customer service is second to none.

What a load of b******s.

My neighbour bought a year old Honda Civic which had paint issues.

The Honda dealer resprayed the bonnet and a door,no fuss no problem.

The Toyota dealer must have to consult head office before he can wipe his bottom!!!

Thats it,they have got everything, stand by for fireworks if the claim is rejected.

Next stop "Watchdog" if that happens.

Brilliant. In other "crap Toyota dealerships" news - mine took Alan the Auris in to check why my parking sensors kept going off erratically, took an overnight stay to tell me there was no problem (um, yes there is), and managed to somehow break the alarm in the process. :D

Gotta laugh, eh..

I would have said that the dealership was at fault here.

If the warranty claim is for the front and rear bumpers, it seems pretty obvious that Toyota would want to see photos of both front and rear bumpers.

What is more worrying is how the hell did this abortion ever leave the factory.

Quality control?what quality control.

In fact what PDI ,the guy who did it must be blind.

Wow Ken - that's what I call a colour match.........and I bet it looks a whole lot worse in the flesh.

No wonder you are annoyed.

What is worrying me is if they say YES to having the bumpers resprayed.

My friends daughter has an Avensis which had to have a bumper resprayed at the same body shop my dealer uses, she bought her car at my dealers as well(very few dealers have an in house body shop these days).

It was a terrible job which she had re done elsewhere .

I'm getting a warm feeling like someone is p****g up my back, and I don't like it.

The saga continues (this all started before xmas) my patience is wearing thin, very thin.

I'm just wondering how you are going to spend you're time when this is finally sorted.

My experience has been nothing but good. A few years ago a relative who was having a lesson in their second hand Yaris ( still within the used car warrenty period but out of the new car warrenty period managed to blow the gearbox). Towed in to dealership, gearbox / clutch etc stripped out & inspected. T came to inspect the damage -- result new gearbox and clutch (as it was contaminated by oil).

On the face of it your dealership seems to be lacking.

Much as I do now, full time carer for my wife who has Alzheimers,so you have to wonder no longer.

I sympathise with you Ken, as I too have to care for my wife who has MS, and the last thing you need is car aggro.

I have many Toyota's in the past and have never had any issues, however that it not to say that it can never happen, as you are experiencing.

Thing is, a paint issue is a different kettle of fish to a reliability problem, and I think Toyota, along with Honda, Nissan etc score very highly in that regard.

Having said that, with the awful paint finish you have shown us, it is no wonder you have had it with Toyota (or more precisely as Bruce states - the dealer).

I am sure that you, like me have plenty to do each day, and I just hope that you are of retirement age (like me), so at least work is not an issue as well.

Good luck!

Andy

UPDATE

Just had a call from the dealer, the go ahead has been given !!!!!

Oddly enough the person who gave the go ahead is the same person who said the paintwork was "acceptable" and rejected the claim 3 weeks ago.

I have spent time taking pictures and getting a report from other paintshops when the OK could have been given weeks ago.

The service Manager at the dealer is as confused as me.

The car goes in on Monday for a week (don't ask) and I get a loan car.

I can't wait to see how this turns out.

It better be good.

Good news. Hope they make a good job of it. Can imagine there will be hell to pay if they balls it up. Hopefully, after this you will have years of carefree motoring.

Well my car is being "attended" to by the body shop.

They gave me a Aygo as a loan car,the service manager apologised for the car being a bit dirty and would I like it washed before I took it.

I said no thanks I will pop it in the sink and give it a wash when I get home !!!!

The main point of this post is the seat belt warning buzzer,YOU CAN HEAR IT above the engine noise and the radio.

Why isn't my Auris like this?

UPDATE !!

After a week I had the call saying my car was ready for collection.

Got to the dealers and the service manager (who has been great) said "lets go and have a look at the car".

Luckily the sun was shining !!

The back bumper looked like someone had rubbed a brillo pad over it as there we so many swirls PLUS there is a matt black section that is let into the bumper,

this was sparkling like diamonds in the sun THEY HADNT EVEN TOUCHED IT !!!!

If any of you were out and about around 2 o'clock you might have seen a mushroom cloud in the sky !!!!

That was me exploding.

It went along the lines of GET THE Fing THING SORTED BECAUSE I AM Fing FED UP TO THE Fing EYE TEETH WITH IT.

So now they have it for ANOTHER week.

I had real fears about my car going to their body shop,it seems they were well founded.

The temptation was there for me to say "give me the car and I will pay for the work myself" but I thought better of it.

My call to Toyota customer services went something like I wouldn't let your "approved" body shop SPRAY MY GARDEN FENCE ( I restrained my language as the young girl on the phone sounded about 15 years old).

The saga continues !!!
