read the pinned diesel faq at the top of the Avensis forum particularly the bit about EGR & head gaskets.

bottom right >previous model brochures (sorry, don't know why the link isn't working properly so go toyota.co.uk>owners>vehicle information))

pre facelift.

facelift: http://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/cdnlive.toyotaretail.co.uk/Owners-Info-PDF/Avensis-June-2007.pdf

2006 was the change over year for the facelift. so some 2006 2.0 d4ds will have the 1cd-ftv engine 115bhp (5 gears) and some in that year will have the 1ad-ftv engine 125bhp (6 gears). we have a 2006 with a 1cd engine.

1cd being more reliable out of the 2. I have not heard of the 1cd engine having the headgasket failure. personally I would only go for the 1ad engine in the mk3 avensis.

trims:

T2, colour collection , T3-S, T3X, T4,T SPIRIT

TR was added in the facelifts.
