Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself since I'm the newest member of this site.

I recently bought a one owner, low mileage mint condition 58 Avensis T180. I'm hoping to chat to other Avensis owners to exchange experiences and tips.

Happy motoring

Welcome to a fellow Lanarkshire resident, Steven. The following is meant in the ABSOLUTE SPIRIT OF HELP, not negativity.

The person or dealer who sold you what is a stonking car would not have told you there is a 7 year engine warranty on your particular type, known as the 2AD Engine. I am not sure if any moderators have copied a very useful thread to the Avensis section, whilst they are well known for moving other useful threads, but it can be found PINNED at the top of the Rav 4 Section by a now banned member Charlie Farlie.

Please read this thread, and if you need any further input or help, contact me on the misnamed Private Message section.

Please be assured, and I repeat, you have bought a stonker of a car, and not all engines are affected.

Thanks for the heads up Big Kev. Fortunately my engine (so far) shows none of these signs. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Check AT LEAST every 2 weeks that there is no pink coolant being expelled from expansion bottle, and minimum oil being used. Remove engine plasic cover and make sure no sign of splattering of coolant under there too. When engine hot, look for bubbling in expansion tank.

Otherwise, enjoy what is a very nice car.

Thanks again for the advice Big Kev, I'll be sure to check. The MPG isnt as good as I would like, but from what I've read on here it's a comment complaint with these engines. Around town I think I'm getting about 35-37mpg.

Welcome Steven - yes, mid to high 30's is typical for this engine around town. You should get low/mid 40's easily on a more open road though :)

Thanks Uncle Buck. At least now I know my engine is performing as it should. No hidden surprises.
