Master Cylinder 2.2D4D T180

Hi,

My 2008 2.2 D4D T180 at 90,000 miles is being fitted with its third master cylinder today, by Toyota, hopefully.

The last was changed 30,000 miles ago. Is this the normal life span of a master cylinder. My car does mostly motorway miles

and I can't ever remeber changing one on any of my other cars, which might indicate I'm not 'heavy' on the clutch.

The part failed driving home, in a matter of 240 miles the clutch went from normal to non existant, the last 120 I drove without any clutch whatsoever. Diagnosed by Toyota as a leaky master cylinder.

Thanks in advance,

P.

I've never had to change a clutch master cylinder or any of the seals - ever. If I remember correctly there was a fault with the clutch master cylinder so its possible you got a faulty one as a replacement last time.

Thanks for that, at least I have some amunition now to push for a reduction in the cost. I've also just noticed that 30,000 miles ago the clutch was replaced free, the charge of £144.00 inc Vat being waived, the new quote to fit another is £240.00+Vat! Now that's what I call inflation.

The part is not £240, its not even £144, you need a proper breakdown on price I think, their figure probably includes fitting which still sounds excessive

Thanks for that, I can't believe Toyota are profiteering, I'll fish around for some parts prices now.

The person to contact is the person who gave you advice last, "the one and only PartsKing", maybe even get a discount as well :-) ...... send him a PM after the Hols.

Pete.

I bought one from Toyota few months ago it was around the £110-120 mark but mine is a 2.0 D4D. I couldn't find a aftermarket supplier for my model but did find one from ADL blueprint for the Avensis mk1.

I got a quote of 104.00 from another garage for the part and a further 250.00 to fit! Inc Vat. It just seems ludicous to have so much disparity between garages?

The car will not be ready until Friday, I'll let you guys know the outcome.
