Hi again RAV4 guys, since having had a replacement engine fitted, the clutch now seems to bite much closer to the floor than before, I am not sure but I thought there is no means of adjusting an hydraulic clutch. Can anyone please advise

Thanks

The clutch pedal height can be adjusted as can the pedal free play. See the 4.2 technical data sheets for specifications.

Thanks for the info gjnorthall, but would clutch pedal height and free play adjustment make any change to where the clutch bites on

Releasing the clutch?

Excessive free play in particular - will cause the clutch to disengage at a lower pedal position - the initial movement of the pedal does nothing other than taking up the free play. A new clutch may well change the pedal position at which the clutch disengages / engages but if the position is very close to the floor, wear can result and gear change may be baulky. If there isn't an issue with pedal height or free play - it might be worth checking out the clutch hydraulic system. Essentially this shouldn't have been touched as part of the clutch replacement but it is conceivable that the hydraulic system was disconnected. Any air in the system will lower the engagement / disengagement point so it may be prudent to bleed the system.

Thanks again gjnorthall, the clutch has'nt been replaced only the engine, but I disconnected the slave cylinder before the engine was changed to gain access to remove the starter motor, I did mention to the mechanic that the system would need bleeding ,although the pedal pressure is OK, it can't do any harm to bleed it again.

Thanks
