Trouble Pairing New Phone

I was handed a new phone over Christmas, and I'm having trouble getting it to pair up with the car.

I've read the manual time after time, and I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.

I've come to the conclusion I'm doing something wrong, because I tried to pair herself's Samsung to the car and failed, and today I tried a workmate's Nokia and that failed also.

When scanning on the phone(s) for bluetooth devices, all of them came up as 'No devices detected'.

My car is a '09 Gen 3, non-navigation model. The new phone is a HTC Mini One, if it is of any help.

Can anyone help out with step-by-step instructions please?

Sounds like you have not made the bluetooth on your phones visible yet - On my android phone (Samsung one), I go into settings-> bluetooth and then click on the top entry in the menu (which tells me what it is paired with already and doesn't obviously look like something to click on) - Once I've clicked it, it tells me that my phone will be visible to other devices for two minutes.

Now that my phone is visible, I can pair it up with the car (as long as you get it done within two minutes)

Hope that helps.

The bluetooth on all the phones is set to visible. They can easily pick each other up, but not the car for some reason.

I can even pick up the old phone (even though the old SIM is dead). If I turn on the old phone and then start the car, they pair instantly.

I've paired the new phone to herself's Parrot kit in her old Civic with no problem.

I can only guess that I am doing something wrong with trying to pair with the Prius system, but for the life of me I can't figure out what!

Excuse the question but what are you doing on the car to pair the phones?

Excuse the question but what are you doing on the car to pair the phones?

Basically, following the instructions in the handbook.

From memory, press lower phone button on steering wheel (this opens the phone setting menus), then via the tune/file knob on the dashboard scroll through the settings menus until I get to the 'Pair Phone' script in the readout. I've tried pressing the tune/file button (and also not pressing the tune/file button) when the 'Pair Phone' script is visible, and then I activate the 'scan for devices in range' button on the phone. Each time it comes up as 'no devices detected' on the phone.

The script in the car's readout never changes.

Does this sound right, or am I missing something?

At the "pair phone" press the tune/file button then rotate the knob until "record name " appears again press tune/file you will hear a beep then say a name out loud for the phone, once spoken the car should repeat the name back if the recording is ok press tune/file to confirm, then from memory an option for phone only or multimedia device will appear select using tune/file after this a 4 digit pin should appear on screen at this point scan from your phone and input the displayed pin when prompted if the paring works a bluetooth symbol will appear on the radio display once complete use the Hangul button on the steering wheel to exit the menu functions.
