What Is A Fair Price On A Full Respray?

Not sure if I'm in a strange zone where people take me for a ride but what is a fair price for a full respray in a different colour on an MR2 and I dont want any eggshell peely paint after 3 weeks of driving to work. I have heard everything from £700 to £2000.

I know you get what you pay for but does anyone one here know the business? I need the engine bay and boot/front boot doing also.

I was quoted £1800 mate... that was for the yellow/black combo. That includes boot/engine bay etc. Doesn't include engine out tho.... somewhere ( sorted avensis knows ), charges £3000... that's for all carpets out, linings etc as well as engine out.

:bookworm:

your in luck. apart from having an industrial workshop opposite a bunch of guys doing just what you need, ive encountered muchos spraying my vehicles in the last 18 months.

so if you wan to know how much i spent, heres the info.

96 Ford Transit - total respray - remove rust, treat with inhibitor, fill and contour, two undercoats, 1 white topcoat. employees husband in the trade. mates rates £300. 8 outa 10. made the money back when i replaced it last september.

94 E-class merc. good wet & dry prep, remove minor bubbles, respray original mettalic. laquer. now thats a lot of car to spray. including inner front wing tops and rear inner boot wing tops. £500. employees husbands employer who did not give it a good machine polish (the guys across the road said they would do it for £600 cash, i wish i had of used them cause ive since seen there work and it is A1). 9 outa 10. sadly sold to pay solicitors fees

2002 merc vito, some ****** took a key to it, full side, sliding door on other side.

£180. 10/10

2001 VW transporter, both sliding doors scraped by previous owner, he took my new looking transit in as exchange. both doors filled and sprayed. £100 8 outa ten.

basically. you want ten outa ten. you want a perfect job. that will cost £300 more than the back street guy. its true, you can pay anything from £500 to £2000

i reckon for a proper acceptable job, £750. you might get a good job for £500 - 600 but you should agree at the beginning that you will have no overspray, no runs, no settlement (dust making small rings) and a good long hard machine polish. anyone who reckons they can do this in under 7 days is lying unless ateam of 3 guys will work solely on your car. the boots and bay will be another £300 - 400, more if they take out everything.

look in the yellow pages. think long and hard. if its yer pride and joy, dont rush this. its like plastic surgery if it goes pear shaped your lumbered.

ask to see work in progress or finished pieces, is the workshop clean? (it'll be covered in dry paint, look for crap lying in corners and dust on the floor, it should be as clean as it can be.

some of the prices ive given are of course mates rates. ask everybody you know if they know a sprayer, you might be suprised and might save at least £100.

good hunting

A few members of Celica Club have used RAP in Scarborough (North Yorkshire). Contact Richard on 01723 581910. You probably won't find a better price. If anyone saw a recent copy of Banzai magazine with a blue modded Celica Gen 7 in it well that was RAP's work.

I'm sure club members who have used RAP would testify to Richard's work. Contact celica-club.co.uk

cheers

Habu
