I have just brought a Lucida 2.2td auto , can someone tell when I should be using overdrive, and is it correct that the gearbox has 1,2,3,and overdrive counts as the four gear

Your assumptions are correct.

When to use overdrive??...Would think most people just leave it switched on all the time.

Its something to play/experiment with as you are getting accustomed to the vehicle though.....

I leave my O/D on all the time.

If you find ever that it keeps flicking between 3rd and 4th as though it can't make it's mind up then turn it off to keep it in 3rd, but I doubt you'll ever need to take it out of O/D.
