Coolant / Antifreeze For A Celica 2002

Hi there,

I am new to the club.

I have a question as i cant find the answer online.

I have read that i need to put red coolant into my celica if i am going to drain it and replace it.

What brand and type of coolant would be best for this?

I have contacted a couple of toyota dealerships near by and one stated they use Caral and the other stated they use there own toyota brand coolant.

If you could send me links to affordable high quality celica coolant it would be appreciated.

The first few items on the following are Toyota coolant: http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/toyota-antifreeze

Also try sending Parts King (see Sponsor's Corner on the Community page) a personal message, stating what car you have, and ask him for prices.

I have been in touch with the parts king !

Just for my referece, antifreeze like this would be useless then?:

It wouldn't be useless, Jake, as it is OAT coolant..but for something that only needs changing once every few years, my advice would be to spend a little extra, and use the genuine Toyota LongLife coolant. I do however, use the Triple QX engine oil from EuroCarParts (£12.49 for five litres).

BTW, five litres of coolant will be more than enough.

Think ideally any coolant you use should be silicate free - not sure whether the Triple QX is. Have a look at the following recent topic - http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/154810-antifreeze-mixing-red-and-yellow/?hl=antifreeze

If you don't wish to pay Toyota prices, Halfords offer an online service for you to determine what type of coolant you need - just input your reg no. Thank you all for your help.

It sounds like the best option would to go for the toyota own brand. Its not an excessive amount more !

The coolant in the celica is actually pink not red, but toyota sell both, the pink is long life coolant and if I remember correctly from the handbook it should be fine for up to either 100k or 150k miles before it needs changing. But would change after 10 years anyway. Not sure exactly how much you need fot a full change but I'm sure it's somewhere nesr the 7 litres.

I'm also sure it was posted over on celica club the cheaper stuff can sometimes cause problems with the seals/gaskets etc

Red ForLife was used in the factory until 2003/4, Pink from then on until production ceased.

I replaced the factory added coolant in mine with Red LongLife a few months ago, undid the bottom hose to drain, and used four litres at the most. I think you'd have to suck out every last drop to need seven litres.

Agree with your "cheaper stuff" comment, Colin.

Not far off with 7 litres, I knew it was more than 1 bottle worth.

It's actually 5.9litres on the 2zz and 5.7 on the 1zz. 100ml less on each if they are an auto
